going on a trip for 2 days.

my wife is graduating from the U of nebraska in norfolk ne. thursday with about 11 years of college behind her. she will be a nurse practitioner now. qualified to take the boards the first of june. we will be gone for two days. she told me she didnt have to walk through the line with cap and gown on but i said you have worked hard and long on this your going to walk through the line. she has been offered a job at the federal hospital in pine ridge and most likely will take it as after 2 years their they will pay off her student loans. however other places in western s.dak also pay off loans as it is a hard place to get people to work way out here in this isolated area. we are proud of her, she is also very good with the piano as she has a minor in music. she can play jesus loves me like motzart wrote the piece. music and math are in her genes. she is a direct decendant of the first assistant to the first composer to katherin the great of russia. she can add large rows of numbers side ways in her head. math and music go together. any of you have a suggestion where to move after 2 years at pine ridge? we are open. has to be beautiful and the people real nice. any of you live in a area like that that need a nurse practitioner? i have in the past offered info like that when some one asked me the same question and they took me up on it and loved where they went. here is a good place to get good opinions.

Re: going on a trip for 2 days.

I don't know anything helpful out there, but I want to offer my congratulations to your wife. That is a big deal to finish. Well done and well done to you for supporting her celebration of it.

Re: going on a trip for 2 days.

Congratulations to your Wife, and you for helping her out, a lot of study.  She has from what you have said a most interesting background. I believe maths and music use the same part of the brain.

Cheers from down under

Gordon.

Re: going on a trip for 2 days.

thank you, my wifes dad traveled a lot when he was young. he could name every number of the hiways he traveled when he was young. he was number smart also. man could he dance, he had rhythm which is math orientated also. im good at math but in another way. i have to take the steps that i learned to get to where i want. im very good a reading blue prints and building something so it is perfect to the blueprint. well we are off to the graduation in a couple of hours. my friend is sleeping in our house to prevent breakends. he sleeps with a smith and wesson 9mm. he goes every wheres with it. as a RN nurse at pine ridge the elderly love her. you would be surprised at the wonderful history of some of them. my wife took care of a native sioux who just died in his 90/s. he was a pilot in ww2 and shot down zeros. after that he become a rancher in the s.dak bad lands. they could make a movie about him. the sioux are the most educated of all the tribes per person. lots of drs, lawyers and educated sioux out their. during the korean conflict and sioux soldier was in a battle with his company against a massive overwellming north korean force. he was badly wounded so he told his buddies, tie me to that tree standing up. so they did and they tied him facing the enemy. then he said give me that BAR and give me lots of full clips. he killed dozens of noerth koreans before they killed him. he is a legend amongst the sioux and a hero to the army. when they went back after the battle their were dozens of dead koreans and he was dead also. natives make good soldiers, it is in their blood. i have a close native friend who lives at belcourt n.dak. he did three tours in vietnam. he has killed at least 50 of the enemy. on the last tour he was wounded badly and spent 2 years in rehab. extended his commitment so he could heal properly. he become a hospital xray tec. he now raises pigs in a good 150 acre wooded enclosure and lets hunters hunt them. they pay by the pound of the pig. these are the real wild ones with stripes on the baby pigs. they take 30 below zero weather with no stress and they are really really mean. taste good though. the meat is red and way better than tame pig.

Re: going on a trip for 2 days.

i understand your concern when she worked where she did. their can be dangers because of the drugs on the rez for my wife also. they are taught if they dont feel right about a house, dont go in it. in several years on the rez i only had one incident i ran from. i was parked ion my pickup doing paperwork by a big sign out in the sticks. a new van pulled up with a bunch of drug dealers in it but i had my engine running and the transmission was engaged and the clutch was down and when they pulled up to drag me out of the truck i was gone in a instant. this scarred them enough not to push it any more. i saw lots of things on the rez. when a shipment of drugs was coming in to the rez i always knew it. i would always see seedy types at every main tun off with old cars and wakitalkies. they would be the look outs for cops or the feds. gangbanger would never bother me as i took care of the grandmas and grandpas. they are night people anyways and always sleeping when i went to their houses. the big dogs are up all night also so most of them were sleeping during the day also. i had to walk 1/2 mile to one place and he had a wolf dog. i fed that wold dog a good ham sandwitch and he become my friend for life. some how he knew when i parked my truck a 1/2 mile away and meet me their and escort me to the house. i had to go by some bad dogs at some bad places and he wouldnt let any of the mean dogs come close to me. they were very afraid of him with good reason. he could have killed them in a second. i kept him in ham sandwhiches and he kept me protected. i was taught to never walk close to the yuka plants as the rattle snakes liked to sleep under them.  slim  buttes is a beautiful part of the rez. lots of wild turnips out their and the air smells good from them. ive found many a dinasour bones out their also. they are every wheres out their. shark teeth also.

Re: going on a trip for 2 days.

back from the graduation. my wife got her second masters and was the only one their with her second masters so she was on the stage alone and given great honors. she will now study very hard for her boards in July, then start seeing patients. every one was in awe that she has worked for over 25 years with only native americans, they have such wrong ideas in their head about doing such a thing. they still think that they could get scalped doing such a thing. it funny to listen to. i found that i worked with natives much easier that whites. the reason is they are a lot easier to talk to if they see you are not with guile towards anyone. anyways we are back, and i sure like ranching country better than farming country. when i got to valintine ne., i just could even breathe easier. nothing like cherry county ne. to make you feel good again.

Re: going on a trip for 2 days.

Congratulations to your wife and you!
I've had many non-traditional (as well called older students who came back to school after being out in the world for some time). In one sense, it is a challenge to get back into the education mindset. In another sense the more mature student has an advantage in focus, drive and mental discipline. The non-traditional students often outperform the kids!
Your wife deserves our respect and admiration for her achievements.

Down under our Aboriginals are much the same, that is the unspoilt ones from out in the  bush, say what they mean and mean what they say.

Re: going on a trip for 2 days.

Nice going and sticking to your guys plan, so many start like you but never get to the point your at now. While she's working you can play with the locals, lots of family historys to hear about.

There's lots to do there, the territory of South Dakota was added to the United States in 1803 as part of the Louisiana Purchase. The first permanent American settlement was established at Fort Pierre by the Lewis and Clark expedition in 1804. White settlement came to the territory in the 1800 had clashes with the Sioux, as some of the land had been granted to the tribe by an earlier treaty. The territory was incorporated into the union on November 2, 1889, along with North Dakota. Had a controversy over which state would be admitted to the union first, President Harrison shuffled the bills and signed one at random, with the order going unrecorded, though North Dakota is traditionally listed first. Lot's of history and some good places to go to shoot, several local muzzleloading groups around the state.

A major part of South Dakota’s economy is tourism–visitors, Mt. Rushmore, which with the 60-foot-tall sculptures of the faces of Presidents Washington, Jefferson, Roosevelt and Lincoln. Go see it and start reading about the spots not traveled as much by the crowds.

Use to canoe, hunt and hang out at Fort Union over the years. It was built and rebuilt between 1828 and 1867, Fort Union was the most important fur trade post on the Upper Missouri River. The Assiniboine and six other Northern Plains Indian Tribes exchanged buffalo robes and furs for goods from around the world, including cloth, guns, blankets, and beads. The post annually traded over 25,000 buffalo robes and $100,000 in merchandise. Great interesting history of the fur trade and buffalo hunter periods. Neat place .......

Re: going on a trip for 2 days.

been to mount rushmore many times, too many to count. love the black hill and may move their in a couple of years. never ever get tired of that country. it is too beautiful to ever get tired of. i like hot springs because it is in a deep long canyon and the wind never gets in their. the stream that runs though hot spring never freezes, it is fed partly by warm water for deep in the ground.that will be my first choise to move too.
