The 1 million-dollar carp!

The American Carp Society are offering a reward of 1 million dollars for the capture of the New York State rod caught record (standing at 50lb 4oz) in their 2005 World Carp Championship. The match will be held on the mighty St Lawrence River from 5-10th June 2005 and is set to be the largest ever carp match in the world.
The organizer Mr David Moor from the American Carp Society believes the reward will bring the carp to the forefront in the USA and prevent the sport of bow hunting.
The prize is only offered to participating anglers at a cost of $2500 to enter the composition which covers a team of two anglers and covers hotel accommodation on the first and last night of the week long festival. The opening and closing events will be held at Akwesasne Mohawk Casino in New York.
A 40 mile stretch of the river with 200 swims using computer controlled updated information on whose catching what and when. The event will be on television and radio covering the whole event all week which means loads of publicity for the winners.
A limited amount of places available to different countries are controlled by the International Carp Fishing Association in the UK. Booking are only available through Angling International by calling Rob Hughes on 01980 591484.

Any carp anglers out there?

I fish for them on occasion. They are a great training tool for younger fishermen/women. A can or 2 of whole kernel corn thrown into the lake, then thread a #2 aberdeen hook full of corn. Throw that hook where you chummed, and make sure that you're holding on to the rod! When I was 10 I caught a 20#'er by myself (8# line) and won a Plaque from The Indianapolis Star for the carp catagory for the big fish contest that year.

I'd use one of the Superbraids now - they have a lot more abraision resistance than mono does. I can't tell you how many times I had the line cut by catching on their dorsal fin.....

New York huh!
I might be interested if I could get some of you guys to sponsor me. I'm figuring 10 sponsors at a thousand apiece before I get interested. Hotel, food, spending money, license, oh yeah and a box of wheaties and some garlic powder this fishing stuff gets expensive. I might have to have a support crew maybe Loggy and Rifleman sitting in lawn chairs telling me how to fish for a whole week. I could even cut all sponsors in on a 5% payback on all prize money. How about it?

:D peteo, u can count on me as a member of ur crew anyday...even if it takes draggin ole Loggy to the wonderful New York State for an American Carp Society Fishin Adventure.

JJ, where in the hell did you find this American Carp Society stuff !! I love it.

Just stumbled across it! Thought it would spice things up a litte here! :D

I've eaten it too... aint bad!

Had a friend from TN ... his wife's g-ma made it all the time.. fried little chunks..

I'll admint it ... it was good!

I can't lie I would rather eat fried fresh buffalo carp and onion rings with some cold brewskis than walleye or catfish. My favorite though is crappie hands down.

Doohan, you got that right and if all goes well will be eating some this weekend. I like 'em if they're still flippin' when they hit the pan :D

Carp in my area (upper Susquehanna River) have a slight muddy taste. We used to put them in a spring water holding trough for a couple of weeks and leave them clean out. Then they were outstanding to eat. :D
Same goes for river suckers.

Forgot to mention Chief....I meant outstanding to the local cats!
The suckers caught early Spring aint too bad though.

peteo, will one six pack or 2 get ya ready for eatin that carp....course i shouldnt talk, never ate fresh fried buffalo carp.
