Welcome from New England.

Most BP shooters start off with a percussion, as did I. Percussion rifles have fewer requirements for reliability than flintlocks. They also cost a little bit less too. I owned a percussion DeerHunter (Traditions) for 20 years and it payed for itself in deer kills for those 20 years. Imported flintlocks are pretty close to being a coin toss as for their locks reliability. Those barrels are high quality and accurate but they seem to have trouble with the flint locks. American made flintlocks, and percussion of course, are much better in reliability and it's the rare cap or flint that has lock problems. So go "caplock" one your first, addiction is instant and you'll be getting "just one more" over and over from that point on. Your second rifle should be flintlock.
