I have the 225 gr. that I will try this spring of 2023. I have the Accura MR-X .45. Not sure if I will use the blue crush in my MZ. It my be to Loose for that MZ but may go with MMP sabot.
I actually do well in my 50 CVA v2 pistol using Harvester Black sabot loaded with my cast pure lead 45 maxi ,and shot well for some others on this site that I've given some to /EdWe thought the boat tail (rebated base) was really gonna be a giant step up in ballistics and accuracy but realized after some time at the range that they were very similar to the flat base sabots. Any differing experience out there?
Speaking of 401 cast These in the 290 gr version are wicked accurate @ 200 yds in a Optima v2
Do you use them as they cast or do you have to size them?Speaking of 401 cast These in the 290 gr version are wicked accurate @ 200 yds in a Optima v2
As cast (perfect) , I do not size anything cast with pure and they weigh 300 exactly , Tom makes great molds and @ 20-1 closer to the 290 gr but irrelevant with sabot . I got the 40-225M 1st but wanted more weight , if interested you could get it delivered for $75.00 as I'm staying with the heavier for hunting/EdDo you use them as they cast or do you have to size them?
I bought 200 gr sabot NoE bullets for 45 cal barrel…they shoot very well in my 1st generation CVA Optima, actually extremely accurate…but I drew an elk tag so wanted a heavier bullet. As cast (perfect) , I do not size anything cast with pure and they weigh 300 exactly , Tom makes great molds and @ 20-1 closer to the 290 gr but irrelevant with sabot . 300 gr Light for me ,usual starts @ 400gr .I'm getting to like the 300 cause at my velocities under 16-1700 fps the furthest these get used at is 200 max/more like 100-150 yds and deer ain't 200Lbs more like 120/see where this is going? I chose a 240 gr pure lead sabot bullet and made a 1 shot kill on 340 bull at 83 yds.
I’m addressing eekjellander here only to point out that 240gr bullets should have a flatter trajectory and plenty of punch for deer and elk…shot placement is critical with muzzleloaders…we don’t get the benefit of any hydrostatic wounding...so while 300grs might plow through a bone we hoped to not hit, too much is given up in flatter trajectory for a better shot placement.
my 6 cents worth….
I’m in Nevada…lots of open country and dead silence, shots tend to be towards the 150-200yd range…which I consider the limits of my muzzleloaders…I watch videos of long range shooting at known distances…as impressive as it is, field hunting conditions is another story.300 gr Light for me ,usual starts @ 400gr .I'm getting to like the 300 cause at my velocities under 16-1700 fps the furthest these get used at is 200 max/more like 100-150 yds and deer ain't 200Lbs more like 120/see where this is going? I'm thinking you would have to slow them down to smoker speeds (<2000) too keep them from fragmenting. Even at those speeds, it may still come apart.LBA, I have used a couple GT bullets and they were excellent. Accurate, inexpensive, and very effective. 3 DRT, 1 to 40 yards, 1 to 100 yards. I have a good inventory and plan on using them regularly in the future. But every now and again I need to try something different.
I'm thinking probably the same thing about these as the GT bullets.I have my order in for the 45/40 sabots. Got the 225 grain version. Ill be shooting them over the next few months. Ill let you know.
