bullet reactions are always of interest as are bullet tests.
when i chose the 180 grand slam in 30-06 my bud tested them in wet newsprint and considered them a very poor performer.
here are a few recovered from elk and one moose. many other were pass throughs and not recovered.
one of the interesting bullets is on the far right. the elk was shot and when i got ready to dress it i found a small patch of hair missing on the off side and felt a bullet just under the hide. after cutting out the bullet it was not mine! it was a 30 cal but had not performed well and was healed completely. my bullet was right beside it and was well mushroomed.
2 of these bullets went the full length of an elk and were recovered in the heart. yea, a texas heart shot, but the animal had been plugged through the lungs first and turned to leave when it got the THS.
i have a collection of 12 ga slugs and sabots from shot guns and muzzle loaders that performed predictably.
i do appreciate the tests very much.
i always read the tests but i am careful to draw conclusions.
it is however the best we can do
