Mounted a scope on my CVA Scout and my friend went to the range today. I set a target at 25 yards and bore sighted the scope. Dropped a cartridge into the chamber, lined up the crosshairs and squeezed. CLICK!
What the heck. Cocked the hammer again and same thing. Broke open the rifle and no dent in the primer!!!
With the action open I pulled the trigger and pushed the hammer forward and the firing pin protruded as it should. Closed the action and did some more examination. Tada - the scope was too low and the hammer couldn't move far enough forward to strike the firing pin!
I spent my time spotting shots for my friend. Came home and reinstalled the scope with higher rings and tested it this time by firing off a primed case.

I drove myself bonkers with a rifle like that. I was so disgusted, I walked away and came back a few hours later and the lightbulb went on.

Hope your rifle shoots now.
