One last sanity check to calm my nerves before my elk hunt. 2.5” 3-shot group with open sights at 200 yards made me feel better. First elk hunt and first time hunting with a muzzleloader. These 290 grain Barnes TMZ really fly well and should do the trick. T/C Encore pro Hunter with 95 by volume of 209 with federal 209a primers. A little sight adjustment and it’ll be ready to go.

After a few blown stalks due to many cows close by watching, I was finally able to get close enough to a decent bull. I ended up taking a shot at 190ish yards hitting him quarrying to and the bullet exited the other side just in the beginning of the rear leg. I followed up quickly at about 230 yards. Just to make sure he went down. This one went through both shoulder blades and was against the hide. I have confidence in this Barnes bullet and wanted to share the results.
