I would really like feedback on users of these two products together. I have had excellent results with 80gr. and the 295 copper aerotip powerbelts. I am shooting a CVA Wolf.

Please post your results!

Thanks

Ive had some good results with those 295 aero tips... finally found a use for them

Blackhorn needs a good seal on the primer and the projectile for proper ignition. If you are getting a good seal with power belts count yourself fortunate.

Also, many... And I mean many, people have reported lost game that were solidly hit with power belts. Their construction... Essentially lead or copper plated lead (ie no bonded jacket) is considered inferior to modern bonded jacketed bullets. Thus most folks who care about that use modern jacketed bullets. The majority of experiences reported support using jacketed bullets over lead solids.

That said your results may prove different. With lead solids alloys play a huge part in performance.

At smoker speeds, ie: 1900 fps and less the lead projectile like the belted bullets and prb and buffalo bullets and soft REAL and Minnie bullets are probably the best choice as to terminal performance. Copper jacketed bullets were initially just an easier way to prevent leading in the bore like paper jacketed bullets. As velocity increases over 1900 fps terminal bullet performance is controlled by bullet design combined with using heavier jackets or tougher bullet alloy. Examples of this are Swift and Nosler bullet design, Barnes and Lehigh use of tougher alloys and various tipped, FN and HP bullets of tougher lead based alloy. Most game lost is due to poor shot placement, poor woodsmanship and lack of tracking skills.

Anyone wishing to know more about bullet design, pure or alloyed bullets and performance at different velocities can visit sites like Castboolits & etc...

Don't pay the negative Powerbelt talk any attention, I kill plenty of deer and hogs every year with Powerbelts... matter of fact, that's all I have shot for years. The 295's are good killers and will work great with 80 grains of BH... but it sounds like you already know that!

Last year I used two White Hot's and the 250 grain Aerolite with awesome results... big entrance and big exit wounds!

This year I'm switching to three White Hot's and the 270 grain Platinum's for deer and hogs... I have a max 150 yard shot on my stand so I'm upping my speed a little... good luck with your CVA and Powerbelts my friend... they are the best combo in muzzleloading!! :)

Thanks for the feedback. As I had stated - I wanted to know results of the two products, not opinions. Guess some people need to get a life. Thanks again!

Here's the result of a PB shot from a Knight, completely through a whitetail and recovered in the picked corn field dirt. Had I not seen the deer fall after it ran, I may not have found it, as there was no blood, on snow.
Some guys shoot them and they work for them. Yet there have been multitudes of bad results, one of which is in the photo below. Shoot what you like and what works for you.

I had one blow up on a nice bucks shoulder, we had to track the deer a long way with dogs then shoot him again. I certainly will never use them again.

Friends don't let friends use standard Powerbelts. Buy only the Platinums and Aerolites in 300+grains. Then only buy them when Walmart puts them on closeout specials in December. Otherwise they're too expensive and better bullets in that price range exist.

:partyman: TO BE HONEST ( this is the REAL FEED BACK ) Power Belts are best left on the Store Shelf or use them for sinkers. :yeah: :yeah:

Why would one encourage another to use ammunition that has been shown time, and again, to be poor? One fellow happens to have a good result or two, yet is saying he will up his charge, (for the 150 yard possible shot), when countless others advise against it. MANY better choices, out there, and quite a few in the same price range, if that is the driving factor.

Your current set up is not that bad (80 gr oF powder). Powerbelts do OK in most cases as long as you don't push them too hard. But you will be making a mistake to try them with 3 white hots. They will explode on you many times at those speeds. And the "platinum" is not any tougher of a bullet than the regular powerbelts. It simply has a smaller hollowpoint up front, so it helps reduce expansion. But the platinum is simply a thin skin and does nothing to make the bullet tougher. STICK WITH 80 grains!!

One great combo. What I'm taking to the range tomorrow with Triumph. First deer I ever shot with an mz was with the TEZ. DRT with massive damage to lungs. Just couldn't resist trying a3-9X40 Styrka scope. Got scope mounted and ready for sight in.

Ditto with 2 pellets of T7. Son uses BH209 with same results.

I have killed all kinds of deer with a .50 PRB. Both in pure lead and made of wheel weight. Im guessing a mz of 1800-1900 fps. So why is it so many people report such bad luck with powerbelts of pure lead but 2 times as heavy and at a little less velocity. It doesn't ad up by my way of thinking.

I mean really. How can we say 180 grains of lead kills deer just fine but 280 grains at the same speed is a problem. Does that make sense to anyone????????
