    Bh209 Walmart

So is a new batch headed out to Walmarts now? I hope so, could use a couple more jugs...gave some away this past fall to the son of a friend who just got a CCA Wolf.

    Hello from eastern Washington

Welcome from Virginia. I'm an eastern Washington transplant, north of Spokane. Really miss hunting the mountains out there.

    CVA warranty

My experience with CVA was good. I bought an Optima and couldn’t get it to shoot worth beans. I remounted the scope, tried BH209, 777, and Pyrodex, 3 kinds of primers, regular and loose powder breech plugs, and a variety of bullets. Easily sank a couple hundred bucks trying to find anything that...

    Why In-Line Muzzleloaders?

This was a huge factor in the decision for me. Most people have a spare eye, but I'm functionally blind in my left eye. I'm exceptionally protective of my one usable eye, and I don't want to have to wear eye pro while hunting.

    Favorite Bullet Weight?

300 gr in a 50 cal with sabots. Barnes Expander MZs or 44 cal Hornady XTPs.

Northern Virginia No difference Garden Food Plot

Sir, I'm about 25 min SSE of you down in Midland. We just bought here, and today in fact have a crew clearing 1 acre of scrub trees so my wife can put in a garden next year. That just makes me smile. Here I thought I'd have to put in a food plot to draw deer in from the surrounding ag fields...

    Blackhorn 209

Thanks! Will head up there shortly. A box of 1000 should last awhile. Edit to add: ….aaaand they’re gone. A clerk took me to them and said “they’re right here. Or were. We had 10 boxes right here an hour ago. Since there’s no purchase limit like with ammo I guess someone got selfish.”

    Blackhorn 209

The Culpepper Walmart had 8 jugs of BH209 about an hour ago. And that's after I bought a few myself. $37 each. Their amount of muzzleloading stuff was far reater than what I saw at the Gainesville Cabelas a month ago. They also had thousands of Federal 209 Muzzleloader primers. I'm on the hunt...

    Blackhorn 209

I normally just read and not post here; I'm still pretty new to muzzleloading so don't have much, if any, wisdom to share so I just read and absorb. But this post compelled me to log in just to click the thumbs up button. As for me, I too just scored 4 jugs of BH209 at Walmart. Between me, my...

Shot out CVA Blackhorn breech plug salvageable with vent liners?

BTW, where did you send it to for the nitride bath?

Shot out CVA Blackhorn breech plug salvageable with vent liners?

I’m probably good to go for a few months with a new CVA Blackhorn BP, but now have no spare when this one gets shot out too. Please share your impressions when you get the nitrided one in hand. That could be the ideal long term set up I’m looking for too.

help me dial in my accuracy

Something else to consider is indexing your sabots every time you load. With my Accura V2 I align one of the sabot slits with the front sight. In my gun this puts two rifling lands in even contact with each of the sabot sections. Disclaimer: I'm extremely new at this too and found out this...

Shot out CVA Blackhorn breech plug salvageable with vent liners?

Just noticed the price on the Lehigh BP, surprised at how little they're charging compared to the CVA BP. Anyone tried the Lehigh version?

Shot out CVA Blackhorn breech plug salvageable with vent liners?

I have a stainless CVA Blackthorn breech plug that has been shot to where the flash hole has expanded beyond safe use. Found out when a primer was blown back and a new o-ring was melted; immediately swapped to my backup breech plug and had no problems. Is it possible (and safe) to have it...

    Optima V2 accuracy challenge

Follow up: Every version of the XTP I have groups 0.75-0.80 inches at 100 yards (44 cal 300 gr, 45 cal 240 gr, 45 cal 300 gr), so I'm a happy camper. I'd been hoping the Banes MZ would do well but so far I haven't been able to get it to group better than 2.5 inches. Haven't tried it at 84 gr...

Ouch! Pipe bombs are quite dangerous.

    Optima V2 accuracy challenge

Ok, range report: Short version... I'm a happy camper. Longer version... was in quite a rush to the range and back, it was crowded, I was rushed by fellow shooters, benches were less than ideal, it was off/on gusty, and around 70F, and despite all this the gun already shoots better than the...

    Optima V2 accuracy challenge

I’m overseas right now, but family says gun arrived. Depending on flights and family plans with Easter I might be able to try it this weekend. :) I can’t wait!

    Optima V2 accuracy challenge

No, I didn't speak with a gunsmith, just the customer service rep who didn't have details. I suspect the issue was inconsistent bore diameter. The first 5 inches or so of the barrel I had was really tight almost like a super-full shotgun choke, then the barrel significantly opened up. This may...
