Converting an 11MM Egyptian Remington Rolling Block to Muzzleloader

Ammunition for an 11MM Egyptian is just about impossible to get, and very expensive, so I decided to convert mine to a front loader. I did this by reaming the chamber out with a 9/16 reamer, and threading the hole to 5/8-18 (many commercial breech plugs are this size - Knight, CVA, Rossi, etc...

Convert a CVA Scout to smokeless

If you are a do-it-yourselfer, such a conversion is pretty easy.. Ream out the chamber with a 9/16 reamer, thread the chamber for a 5/8-18 bolt ( I bought mine from Home Depot, but I do not know if they are still available there ). CVA, Knight, other breech plugs are all 5/8-18 threads. I've...

    13 yd mzzl sight in

Back in ancient times, when I was in the National Guard, I seem to remember that we sighted in our M16's on special targets on a 1000 inch range (essentially 25 meters). https://www.ar15.com/forums/AR-15/M16-M16A1-Zeroing/123-769623/?page=1&anc=bottom#bottom

What muzzleloaders can shoot smokeless? Any sidelocks?

60-odd years ago I used to help a friend load 45-70's for a trap door Springfield. We used (if I remember correctly) 13 grains of Unique topped off with oatmeal. When I started shooting muzzel loaders, I brought this experience to them, since I HATE the mess associated with black powder...

Converting a CVA Optima Pro Magnum V-1 to a CVA V-2

In Clyde Baker's "Modern Gunsmithing" is described a simple method of muzzle crowning. Brass balls of several sizes - 3/8, 1/2, 5/8 and 3/4 inch diameter Get at least two of each size in case you lose or spoil one. Drill a little more than half way through each with a No. 29 twist drill and tap...

    Bullpup muzzleloader, so cool

That was my first thought when I came across the bullpup concept. Bad enough having the detonation out in front. Murphy's Law.

    Custom made breechplug?

Have you used a thread gauge to measure the "TPI" on your Huntsman? Rossi and CVA mostly use 5/8-18 threads, and the Remington 700 ML uses 11/16-16(?)

    Custom made breechplug?

I have made all sorts of beech plugs out of 5/8-18 bolts with no problems. Here is a link to my article about making them: https://www.modernmuzzleloader.com/threads/making-a-qrbp-from-a-5-8-x-18-x-2-bolt.34073/

Primer Ignition Device to replace Percussion Caps

I do not hunt, so most of those objections do not apply. I live in Louisiana, so if I want to hunt during primitive weapons season, I could use any single shot rifle over 35 caliber, like a .35 Whelen, .444 Marlin, or 45-70 Govt. If you want to hunt and do not like the primer ignition device...

Primer Ignition Device to replace Percussion Caps

I found these illustrations in Ned Robert's "The Muzzle-Loading Cap Lock Rifle. The drawing was provided to Mr Roberts by Mr. Wm. V. Lowe. These are pictures of the Primer Ignition Device installed on a Brockway Rifle.

    Cast bullet for sabot?

Actually, one can use any projectile of the right diameter in a sabot. For a .50, this means either a .45 (.452) or .44 (.429). Just out of curiosity, I lathe turned a piece of 1/2" round stock down to .452 with a 60 degree point on it ( I think it was about 300 grains) and it shot just fine out...

    Obsolete cartridges/rifles

The .358 Winchester is nothing but a .308 Winchester (aka 7.62 NATO) necked up to .358, as I found out researching the 35 Whelen. From Wikipedia: Specifications Parent case .308 Winchester Case type Rimless, bottleneck Bullet diameter .358 in (9.1 mm) Land diameter .350 in (8.9 mm)...

    Obsolete cartridges/rifles

Why not just spring for something in a 243 Winchester? After all, the 6mm Remington started off life as a 244 Remington, introduced in 1955. As I understand it, the 244 Remington didn't make it because they built it with the wrong twist. I had one almost 50 years ago.

Conversion of Knight LK-93 from nipple to 209 primer

Copied over from: Conversion of Knight LK-93 from nipple to 209 primer I recently picked up a rough Knight LK-93 at a pawn shop for not much money and decided it would be a good project platform. I looked at a commercial conversion kits, but the price was prohibitive. I decided it was also...
