So this year my daughter drew her very first deer tag and as luck would have it I drew the same tag.
I set off for the Wednesday opener and ran home and picked up my daughter Thursday after school.
I did a ton of shooting this summer with load development with my new CVA Accura MR. I settled on 70 gr. By weight BH209 with the 300 gr. XTP Mag. I was using the CCI mag primer.
Both deer fell to this load at around 80 yards. Both were bang flop and dead before they hit the ground.
My buck was shot from above off a ridge line and I hit the top rear edge of the near shoulder. It went through the very bottom of the spine and exited right behind the off side shoulder near the elbow.
My daughters buck was shot quartering to us and she hit him on the point of the shoulder. The bullet traveled all the way to the opposite rear hind quarter and was just under the hide. It weighed 277 gr.
Overall I am super happy with my muzzy and the bullets. It was an awesome hunt!
