A little progress made over the holiday
ebony nose cap installed, fit and installed buffalo horn butt plate, installed sights on barrel.
This is a .54 cal 1:70" round ball gun.

Nice! That will be one hell of a cool muzzy when shes finished. 3 wedge keys, how the hell long of a barrel is that?!
 
very true, I have a 32" barrel on the hawken, but it doesnt feel like it. Very nice build, I look forward to seeing the finished rifle.

This project started last winter but summer projects and the wife demanded priority.  This is my first non-production, non-kit ML project so I spent some extra time contemplating the next move.  With winter set in and some free time until the middle of January, the plan is to get it done in the next week or so. 

I am hoping the curly maple will turn out with the aqua-fortis. 

The work bench top is 3/4" plate aluminum that I acquired in a long forgotten trade.
