We used to say we didn't have a pot to pxxx in. However we set pins to earn some spending money. We started out reloading using a used Lyman tong tool. We had no scale nor dippers. We subscribed to Outdoor Life with our pinsetting money, so we could read Jack O'Connor. He pointed out we could use the 270 case to measure powder if we used the real 4831 surplus powder. Of course that is exatly what we did. We filled the 270 case with the surplus 4831 to the top, and carefully placed the bullet, and compressed the powder using the tong tool. We never had any issues, and mom, and dad never seemed nervous about us boys reloading in the bedroom.

After a while we did purchase a scale. The scale was dampened by a vane in a jar of oil. It worked good, and we boys felt like 'real' reloaders.

Absolutely love it Ron. I filled a tray with sized 222 brass and filled each with 3031, bumped off the excess then loaded the 50 grain spitzers.

That was the good olde days. Wood chucks as thick as fleas, a squirrel behind every tree, very plentiful herds of deer, go hunting where ever your legs would take you. Dad used to drink shafer beer in steel cans that needed a pointy church key to open. Black and white sneakers for gym class..sneaking a butt or two from pas lucky strikes. You make me laugh Ron, very fond memories for sure..ty
