Well my dates coming up next Monday to have my Left eye done first it`s the worst one. My wife got her 2nd one done last Monday. We went with the Vivity lens which has distance and better middle vision. She can see pistol and rifle sights clearly and good sight picture through scopes. She can do computer work with no problem. But to read small print a book for example she needs cheaters. She`s happy with the outcome. I have fought with the VA for a couple of years and finally got tired of the run around and went to an outside doctor. Not to knock the VA I have received some great care there. But some departments are worst then others. No grudge. In case any of you guys are gonna get your eyes done I`ll post how it goes. Good day to all.

The wife had her cataract surgery couple years ago. I had to put the drops in her eyes, she couldn't.
Have eye appointment today. I have baby cataracts, but not ready for surgery yet.

You will probably be able to go a long time before surgery. They said I had signs of them ten years ago.

Good luck. Please post how it goes.

Had "Lasik" eye surgery done long ago and the results were life-changing (20/250 to 20/20). Had cataract surgery this year on both eyes, opted for cheaper lenses. Night vision (oncoming headlights, reflective road signs) improved remarkably but close vision did not.

Pick an opthomoligist (SP?) who's done thousands, not the one just back from a seminar. I'd have it done again, but opt for the best lenses. At least now, when I'm lost, I can read those road signs.

Got the best ones I could without going to the trifocals which can cause halos.

Here is my 24 hr report. Yesterday I had a Vivity lens implant on my left eye. I can see much clearer and no halos. Pistol sights are excellent clarity, rifle sights are acceptable and scope viewing is excellent. I can still read well at this time because my vision blends with my right eye. When I have my right eye done I will most likely need cheaters for close work and reading up close. The colors are much brighter which was a big surprise for me.
At the moment I am thrilled at the progress in my vision. I have not completely healed and I will continue to give update. Good day to all.

My parents both had it done on both of ice in the first thing they noticed was color was much brighter and much more intense. I have a terrible cataract in my left eye is the worst. It’s like looking three through a Coke bottle bottom that you just happened to dig up in the dirt.
Because of my diabetic retinopathy I receive injections to reduce the pressure and while it has improved with 30 injections it will not go away enough to be able to allow them to do the cataract surgery. It’s a 50-50 chance that it would light a retinopathy fire storm causing me to have a massive amount of injections on a regular basis possibly for the rest of my life. Not gonna do that.
My specialist has already restricted my driving to no driving at night and no driving in the rain. My wife has further restricted to local driving only.
At the end of the month I have to go to Hematology/Oncology as they start looking for the possibility of cancer or a blood disease because of platelet issues and a couple of blood tests that came back with markers in them.

I definitely hope that you continue to see improvements and that everything comes back to you very quickly. Never take your eyesight for granted.

Greg, I pray everything works out for you. Do your best and take it a day at a time. God bless you

I cannot describe how well eye surgery worked for me. Extremely nearsighted from birth i have seen poorly thru glasses for 64 years. At 65 things took a bad turn and started to really go blind. Thought it was just normal cataracts but diagnosed with advanced Fuchs disease which makes everything go "dark." Doc says "i can fix that" and ultimately replaces both corneas, lens along with yanking cataracts. Now i can see folks across the mile wide river and the brilliant colors and astounding clarity are beyond description. No more glasses!! Best part is its a quick, painless outpatient procedure and recovery time is less than a week for each eye. Might add as my avatar suggests i spent good deal of time in SEA and suspect being exposed to Agent Orange for my trouble.

Thank you very much. At 59 I’m seeing just over a half dozen specialists now. Never thought I’d have these issues but I also know the God has a perfect plan for me. That makes it bareable

Might add that the most recent procedure for cornea/lens replacement does away with need for all the little stitches it used to require. The whole thing takes less than a hour and mine were done in a super slick way. Went into exam room and sat in chair. They gave me a mild sedative and i conked out. Woke up in same chair an hour later!!!. Apparently you never leave the chair. When your off in LA LA land they wheel you in the chair to operating room and return you to exam room when done. No pain. Extremely sorry i did not have it done sooner. Can use now open sights out to 600yds (with unmentionable of course) and vision is like non stop IMAX theatre. PM for where i went if you want.

Great, but i the new method covered by Medicare? Many times Medicare only covers the "old" ways!

This procedure was covered by Medicare 100%. I think the "old ways" involving extensive delicate stitching are reserved for very special cases only. Am watching a couple guys unload their boat across the river on the launch. Think its 3/4 of a mile off and almost read the boat numbers!!. That its an hour plus outpatient procedure still has me in awe. Also i am the biggest chicken fecal matter type when it comes to messing with my eyes but this went so smooth i was astounded when they woke me up the first time and said -- youre done. Now i do a fair amount of close work so dollar store glasses help but arn't a "must have" at like 6". Also its really tough to remember eye protection when shooting or on the lathe or grinder. 60 years+ behind glass does give a sense of protection that's hard to overcome but clarity of sight is worth it. Best part is you can wear nice non prescription shades.

I do not believe they use stitches anymore. Same procedure with Medicare lens. You just do not get a premium lens. From what I understand many folks do well with the Medicare lens. You get a choice of nearsighted or farsighted lens. In my case I went with a premium. So far so good.

How did you get a "premium" lens. DID you use medicare or do it all privately on your own dime?
