Colt 1873 percussion only

Does anyone know the history of this model? I've heard it was made due to cartridge pistol restrictions in Europe. There's apparently at least 2 variations, as I have a cylinder for one that doesn't fit the one I own. The difference seems to be with the barrel mounting depth. The non matching cylinder is stepped at the front around the cylinder pin hole.

Pietta made them, as did UbertI and possibly another manufacturer as well. I suspect you’re mixing and matching.
