My friend has a Wolf and he shoots 100 gr of FFFg and a 290 gr Barnes TEZ and get great accuracy. Very close to the accuracy I get with my Accura. My suggestion would be try a heftier charge and also a heavier bullet. .44 or .45 cal Hornady XTPs with the right sabot shoot great in almost everything I've shot them out of.

A slip on recoil pad could make the LOP too long for his son. The Wolf comes with a Crush Zone pad which are pretty good, but something like a Limbsaver pad instead might absorb more recoil.

Back in my younger days I would fold up a kitchen towel to lessen the recoil sting when shooting in a T shirt and using my sidelocks. Worked well enough at the time.

245gr is super light for caliber. Best way to reduce recoil is shoot a lighter bullet in a sabot. A Harvester Black crushrib and a Barnes 45cal 200gr or 225gr XPB will knock the snot out of deer even with lighter loads. That combo might be too loose so i would also get the Harvester black (smooth) EZ-Load sabots. If you want a cheaper bullet you can buy 240gr and 260gr PT Gold from Harvester too in 50packs.

These are great bullets for sabot use and for reducing recoil. I shoot these in my NULA 50cal with a Harvester black (smooth) sabot. Most under rated bullet in the ML community.

I remember my brother and I went out to sight in for deer season. 12 gauge slugs. Talk about brutal. After a few of those I threw a winter coat over the shoulder. Does 2 things. Reduces felt recoil and gets that scope a little farther away from the face. For target shooting I would go with Phalanx statement. Recoil pad or not.

Thought about trying some lighter weight XTPs? Either .451" or .430" with ab good fitting Harvestor work well in my grandson's Wolf when he was younger. I used 60-65 grains (v) of BH and he was happy. Didn't try lighter loads but they should work too.

I would try 90 or 100 grs by volume. If it wouldn't kick him too bad. With a hornady 290gr bore driver. The accuracy of them are very good. It should shoot 1 inch or under at a 100. Just have too try different bullets and powder charges. I have a CVA Optima V2 50 cal LR nitride rifle. It will shoot under a 1 inch at 100 yds. I was shooting 120gr of blackhorn by volume. Just went to 84 gr by weight. I been shooting hornady 250gr sst sabot. Going to town this morning to pick up some hornady 50 cal 290gr bore driver to try out.

Here is my last 3 shot group at 75 yards from my CVA Optima V2 - 1x Sig romeo 5 - two 50 gr IMR white hots- 300 gr Harvester PT gold + crush rib sabot - T7 w209.

I bought a wolf last year. I didn't have time to test loose powder and it shoots heavier bullets better. I run a 4 pellet charge of Firestar's under a Hornady bore driver and get 1" at 100. It also shot 2 pellet Whitehots under a 240 SST pretty well too. 3 pellets of whitehots made my filling fall out on touch off..

I shot my boy's Wolf with him today. Shooting 50 gr (by volume) 209 under a PowerBelt 245gr HP, it was spraying - 4" groups at 50Y. Ouch.

I didn't expect it to be as accurate as my Accura (which does < 1" at 50Y easily) but come on.

I am thinking (hoping) this is too light a load to seal the bullet maybe. It is 35 gr by weight (I use charge tubes and pre-weigh all charges); right about 50 gr by volume as I said.

Anyone have any experience with this maybe?
I would try a lighter gr.

Try a lighter gr bullet and bring up the powder 65 gr.to85 try sm. Pillow at shoulder and wrapped will help with kicking.Hope this helps

How did you make out with your son's shooting the 50cal.

Barnes .410 180 grain XPB in a blue crushed rib might be a good low recoiling load that would still be deadly on deer. Or a .429 200 grain XPB in a green Crushed Rib if you don't want to go lighter than 200 grains.
