You won't need a EER scope. A scope with 4-5 inches of eye relief would be nice though so your son doesn't get popped by the scope. ALSO...you may need to use some extension rings to move the scope away from the eye a little. I used Leupold QR mounts. The bases can be flipped around and allows a little more mounting flexability, kinda like built-in extension rings. I also used a Simmons Aetec 2.8-10X44...a good scope with a lot of eye relief. They don't make that scope now...You might find one on an auction site. A good option would be the Burris 4X20 fixed power scope. LOTS of non-critical eye relief and it's not all that expensive.
