Muley

Just go ahead and turn loose of some of that old moldy $$$$ you've got hid out and do the deal! Matter of fact...that 'neighbor' of yours might make ya a loan (no interest) so you'd have something to do just to 'keep ya outa her hair'.....!!!!!!!!! :face: :sunny:

I wish. She's as broke as me, but has big boobs. Sort of makes up for it.

I messaged Old Archer.

I am on that forum as well, but I only write stuff to post here.
That may make you like our forum less.
 :affraid:

The description said the barrel is not stamped GRRW.
If it is, I have made an offer. If not, we will see.

I am on Buck's wait list for the GRRW CA rifle now.
If the real thing is available for less? I may as well move
on it. Since there is a long wait list for GRRW CA, it may
not be an either-or.

Depends.

Exciting, eh?

This felt like a good move at the gut level. I have been saving for a couple
specific new toys, anyway.

Thanks for the tip, Muley.

PS. I read more carefully. The seller thinks that if GRRW gunsmiths build it,
Doc may agree to have it stamped. I think I can make that happen. I made
the offer.

PPS. The wife is on board, btw. Anybody want to criticize me again for cooking
breakfast and dinner and doing a load of laundry? It does pay off.
I am the better cook, anyway.

I hope it works out for you Colonel.  That will be a nice shooter for sure.

Thanks, Joe!

A reply:

KC,
"I am familiar with the GRRW CA and those old gun-builders are the folks that I was referring to when I said maybe they could get Doc to stamp the barrel.
Yes it has a Cherry Corners double set trigger. Look at some of the links from Doc's website or Phil's website. This kit will make a traditional correct Hawken."

I confirmed the offer. I am waiting.

PS. The wait was not long.

"I will ship as soon  as I receive it and I will mark the kit SPF now.
Thank you and good luck with it, I was going to make it myself but I already shoot a
GRRW and I really would prefer to build Longrifles.
Thanks
Old Archer"

Buck? Where are you? I got my parts! Do you think we can arrange a stamp?

Good deal. Now you'll have a real Hawken. Other than the Hawken Bros coming back from the dead to build one.

All I want in return for the tip is for you to dust my place for a month.

Pffft... I would not look good in a French maid's outfit.

A .58... that is elk size... hint, hint

There is a local fellow who sometimes comes to this forum. Phil is the guru of GRRW rifles! History of GRRW, ask Phil. Want to know who made what barrel when? Ask Phil. I think BigAl52 bought his GRRW because of Phil.

Sorry, Pete, but the Colonel has committed to cleaning my place on Thursdays. And if he really is a good cook, that will be a bonus in my house! I hate to cook and my wife isn't a good cook.

I have good reason for not wanting to cook: when I am hungry, I want to eat. When I am not hungry, why would I want to fool around with food?

Ron

I saw that GRRW kit, also.  No way i could build it.  But it looked a sweet kit.

I saw that kit before it was posted on ALR. It was sent to me via email by Bob Allen who sends out the GRRW gazette. Phil writes articles for the gazette and the gazette is sent to people who sign up for it and join the collectors. Phil was definitely a big factor in my purchase of mine. But I love Hawkens anyway. Gun buliders tell me there boring rifles to build because they cant inject there own ideas in how the gun should look like they can other guns. Phil brought out a Hawken Squirrel rifle last time we shot together so now Im on another mission to have one of those built. John Bergmann of Tennessee also builds some nice Hawkens and is doing my squirrel rifle. Congrats on the kit Colonel. I love my GRRW and Im looking for another. That darn Phil has started a disease. Al

OK...

If you have no interest in this GRRW rifle, ignore this.

If you are interested in the pedigree, what is in the kit, and history, stay tuned.
I found a photo cache of the rifle in question.

Here is the support material.

I have even more, but I doubt anyone but me would be interested.
Let me know if anything strikes you from this. Let me know if you want more,
GRRW seems to be an interesting topic to some.

I signed up for Bob Allen's Green River Gazette today. (Thanks, BigAl)

"Mr. Bob Allen is the editor that produces the Green River Gazette, if interested in his wonderings send your email address to receive a free quarterly newspaaper. Don't forget to ask Bob for back issues of the Gazette, he'll be happy to meet your request."

A blurry pic of art from the GRRW kit's blue prints

You need an e-mail address for him to sign up. I have it if you want it.
PM me and I will send it. (I would post it, but feel odd about posting a
personal e-mail in a public space.)

This link may make my help redundant.

NOTE: Muley! Please, DO NOT delete this thread! I need to print it and need more ink!

The original American Long Rifle post on this kit for sale has been deleted.

Not a tragedy as I have a LOT of documentation, but if you know of more
places that talked about selling this kit?

Please, let me know? I am following all leads.

Thank you.

I thought you bought it?

No reason to delete this thread unless you start talking about my pink dress.

(Carefully avoids talking about... or, thinking about Muley's pink dress.)

I DID buy it. I am documenting it. Have discovered some very very interesting
things. I need to continue the excellent documented history of this. You were right.

(Yeah, I said it. Better keep this thread up for posterity, Muley. Now, you have
proof it happened once!)

"Here's a Really Rare Find" turns out to be a very accurate description.
This has turned out to be even more fun than I knew when I decided to
commit to buying it. 'Lucky,' might also describe it.

I need to buy a lottery ticket from somewhere...

I have 500 lottery tickets I can sell you cheap. Slightly used, but still in good shape.
