For the first time in quite awhile, I decided to try some 200 yard work. I took my Savage 99 .300 and some reloads. In this case, a 150 grain Hornady spire point over 39 grains of IMR 4064 in reformed Federal 308 cases, Winchester large rifle primers and an overall length of 2.6".
The first group was rather poor due to target choice. I switched to my old reliable inverted T and let fly.

Groups went from 3 into 3 & 3/16ths 2 into1 & 5/8ths.
Next, 4 were 2 & 5/8ths, 3 of those 2 & 9/16ths and 2 into 1 1/8th.
Again, 200 yards from my 1948 99EG with the factory bread front sight and Redfield 70H aperture rear sight.
Glad I didn't tell my rifle that lever guns can't shoot as accurately as other action types...

I've long thought, and on several occasions proved, that if you shoot any rifle with the same care and technique you would a target rifle you will usually be pleasantly surprised.
However. Shoot any rifle like it's a bullet hose and guess what? It'll be a bullet hose!
I remember a day when I badly outshot a couple derps with Caliber 30 M1 National match rifles.
With a Chinese security service SKS.
At 200 yards.
Once their jaws retracted, they let me try their rifles.
Weren't the rifles...

My very first hunting rifle was a Winchester model 64 that I bought in 1963 for the princely sum of $35.00. It has shot many 1" to 1 1/2" groups at 100 yards. I have 3 Marlin 1895's in 45/70 that will now outshoot it. The point being lever guns CAN shoot accurately! The gun scribes and manufacturers would have you believe that only the newest "black" guns and their ilk are accurate.

My dad was not a hunter butalways talked about his uncle that was the hunter of the family and his rifle was a Savage 99 in 250-3000. I always wanted one so when a friend mentioned he got one in a trade I had to work a deal with him. That was 40+ years ago. My son shot his first deer with it 32 years ago and now my grandson is using it. It has always been hard to find shells so I pick them up whenever I can.
Be safe
