Recently back from our Maine trip to Lake Sysladobsis which is in the West Grand Lake complex in eastern north central Maine. Fishing for landlocked atlantic salmon (AS) is usually decent and this year as no exception. This being a family trip fishing is usually a morning affair for a couple of hours per day. Most fish were caught on a trolling spoon I put together from parts which i got at some tackle crafting website. Hammered copper with purple and pink edges trolled on downrigger 40 - 60 feet over 45-70 feet depth from 3.1-3.3 mph as measured on chartplotter. Totals for week 30 AS hooked, 20 landed in approximately 11 hours of fishing. Largest was only 17 inches, maybe one around 18 lost at boat. Most other fish between 14.5-16.5 inches. lost alot of fish right at boat/net as AS coming from deep cold hypolimnion up through the warmer thermocline tend to conserve all their energy until they see boat/net (and net was small borrowed version) . Caught approximately a dozen smallmouths SMB as well when specifically targeting them. Most SMB trolling but one on flyrod, my first ever. Great trip overall.
