Unfortunately, there is no standardization. To my knowledge, there are only two major companies that produce sabots - MMP and Harvester. The only two colors that are basically standard are black and green, I think. And, the color schemes can go out the window when those two make sabots for Hornady, Barnes, TC, etc. Each company specifies the color they want for a particular sku.

Thank you so much for your time and effort! I was hoping for some sort of standardization but it is what it is.

Any idea who makes the yellow ones for Traditions?

Walt

Good question. Maybe someone else knows.

Here is a comparison.

Harvester - Traditions - MMP HPH

Doesn’t really look like either. The HPH all have rings as well - the inside of the cup is not smooth as it is with the Traditions. Perhaps the standard MMPs are smooth? 🤷🏻‍♂️

I notice (can’t see it in the pic) that the Traditions mold number appears hand-engraved. The MMP and Harvester are not. I have some old Knight and TC sabots that look like that but I don’t know who made them.

I saw a thread about this sometime back I think there were only the 2, (perhaps one more at one time) makers for all the sabots. I think it was the bases that were the key, all specialty contract sabots were basically the same formula with different colors added. This might have been around the time they modified the plastics about when the savage ml came out and the fast twists were blowing sabots. They upgraded the formula to better handle pressure. I'm thinking an old white forum maybe? Probably why the data in no longer available

Traditions uses a MMP 3 Petal EZ sabot. They just dye them yellow. Old Traditions sabots could be anything but i think mine were MMP Short black that came with my Parker BEs they used to sell.

Three sabots in the pic are Black Crushrib............................Yellow 3P-EZ or MMP Short---------------------HPH-24 (you can tell by the stamped number) A HPH-12 number would look etched instead of stamped

Good info.... as par-for-the-course, from Ford....oops GM.

Sometimes he provides us with Birdies too.....lol

Simple rule in the muzzleloading world is to try a number of combinations to see what works best for your rifle. I personally use MMP sabots when I am using sabots at all, but my different rifles shoot certain bullet/sabot combos differently in regard to accuracy. I suggest you get a few different sabots for the bullets you want to use and prepare for a long day at the range, not forgetting to let your barrel cool. I like to do all my experimenting in the winter so it doesn't take as long for the barrel to cool between shots. Good luck, and enjoy.

Harvester makes a orange 50-458 crush rib sabot.
