On another board the members are discussing a controversial move by a local town to hire a contractor to use the "net and bolt" method of capturing and destroying deer. This is being done in an attempt to control the deer population in a residential area.

I am amazed at the way these deer are captured using these miniature rocket propelled shells to launch the nets. Lets just say, it is certainly not what I would have expected.

Here are two vidoes of actual captures for those who may have never seen this method in action....

Some time ago I saw a wildlife program using a similar method used to capture birds, geese I think, for tagging purposes. Just wondering if any deer are injured by this. They sure seem to be trying hard to get out of the net. What happens to these deer? Are they relocated?

It'd be nice if they would donate them to a program like feed the hungry or something like that.

Yes...the "bolt" does indeed come into play..

They drive a 3.5 in steel bolt through the deers skull to kill them. The same process that is used to kill cattle.

No..As far as I know I do not believe they are fed to the hungry
