Original Night Site?

I found this and immediately wondered if it was legit...

Any thoughts?

Never saw anything like that.   It looks like a carbide light with a flintlock mechanism to light the flame.

Carbide lights use calcium carbide and water to generate acetylene gas.   They are pretty good lights.   i  have a couple of those lights in my junk somewhere.

Re: Original Night Site?

It's for fire hunting. Waterfowlers used them extensively in the market hunting days with larger guns and even punt guns. It appears to be a smoothbore so it may be a close-range "poacher's gun" for whatever he could get close to.

It's a dueling pistol! The light blinds the opponents aim!! :D :face: :affraid:
