I wouldn't use FedEx to ship a box of rocks. I used to use them until I had a rifle get smashed/bent and not a month later, had one stolen out of the box. It took forever to get my money out of them.
As for UPS, I have to drive 18 mi to a service center. Our little hub where I live is only open to the public for 90 min late in the afternoon. Don't even try a UPS Store. They will not take anything firearms related. Tried to use them to send a scope to Leupold. They wouldn't take it.

have you ever fought USPS for an insurance claim? I’m still fighting a 200 claim from a year and a half ago, on a package they lost. (Never has shown delivered) and they have never found it. Just keep getting a run around and figure they’re just waiting on me to give up!
I have not had an issue with Fedex to have to try but can say that UPS has always been very prompt but honestly only time I’ve had to make a claim, was through my employer on a company shipment but they was very fast in their investigation and reimbursement...

What I said is true. No concern if you don't believe me. I don't save all that paperwork. All I want is the tracking number.

I can't even read what you posted.

I was just trying to be helpful and posted my experience.

USPS is supposed to measure every box that is not one of theirs, and they do go by length x widthx height because over certain parameters they will charge you for a over size box.. Ive shipped hundreds of custom recurves/longbows and muzzleloaders all over the US and it does matter..a 18 oz longbow that's 70 in long and put in to big of a box can end up costing 50.00 to ship.
I wouldnt ship anything of my own thru Fed -Ex or UPS because Ive seen how packages are treated in a sort facility plus they have lost more then 1 of my items to never be seen again, one of them was a 800.00 boat cover, luckily the vendor sent me another one. It even said it was delivered but it was delivered in another state.

Hate to point out the issue with your statement but you didn’t “show” anything, you made a statement! You also stated that you broke it down to fit in a smaller box and just because USPS didn’t measure it, doesn’t mean that Fedex didn’t measure the box, for him. I also know my local post office, measures every box I drop off. But either way This is “showing” what you said is NOT true in my case! $41 with USPS and $26 with Fedex. So it appears that USPS is even a lot more, now.. It’s been the same with my last several shipments over the two pounds the article stated. Sometimes by just a couple bucks but other by a huge amount.View attachment 7590View attachment 7591View attachment 7592

FedEx has always been the cheapest but there is a reason for it. I'm not going to get into the reasons in the open forum. I was in the transportation business for 40 years and I've had to deal with about every freight company you can think of. With FedEx Ground you only get what you pay for. If you have had good luck with them keep rolling the dice.

The bottom line is if you ship it will be getting more expensive, and there is always a risk no matter which carrier you use.

just shipped 2 compound bows in the same size boxes by usps. from CT to PA was $25 to Tn $35.10. they measured and weighed both boxes. the scale was below the counter top and they had to put an empty box on the scale for the long package to clear the counter.

I sent a handgun from Delaware to louisanna $104.43 I almost xxxx right at Fed-X A hand gun has to be shipped overnight anymore the cost of shipping make one to take a beaten on the selling price

According to the USPS their rates have only gone up by a little over 2%. It sure sounds like a lot more than that from what I have read here. As far as the insurance goes, from my experience it is not worth the paper it is written on from any of the carriers.
