they sure look like them..Is rockfish another name for stripers?
I'd never heard them called that before.Yes, striper and rockfish are one and the same
Back in Connecticut, we called small stripers like that Schoolies.Yeah pretty common out here, they hang around all the rocks, hence the name.
They are outstanding table fare. Flaky white meat, mild on the fishy taste. Its great breaded & fried, baked, on the grill, or stuffed with crab imperial. They are not great fighters on the line though, like how a largemouth bass fights - unimpressive compared to a smallmouth half its size. I've done tons of trolling for them on big poles & reels, my fav way to catch them is on light spinning tackle in the saltwater or freshwater.Any good eating..?
Yep, rocks & oyster bedsYeah pretty common out here, they hang around all the rocks, hence the name.
Thats awesome Tony, way to go. I really miss doing that since I left Md 9yrs ago today.me and some buddys hit the bay early and slayed the hell outta some rockfish today
That’s the limit in New Jersey also 1 at 28-38 inches.Back in Connecticut, we called small stripers like that Schoolies.
The last I knew, the minimum length was 28 inches and you could only keep one fish per day.
