The regs are about to change in Mississippi, allowing single-shot breechloaders (.38 cal. min) such as a .38-55, .45-70, .45-90 Sharps and high wall rifles loaded with smokeless cartridges to be used right alongside muzzleloaders in their "primitive" season. There has been a run on H & R Handi-Rifles as a result.

Yet, smokeless powder is NOT specifically legal in muzzleloaders.

If you care to support Mississippi with your tourism and hunting dollars, or care to support smokeless muzzleloading-- a FAX to 601-432-2187 would be helpful.

You can also write if you wish; if you click on "Primitive Weapons" at the above url, you can read the specifics and get the proper address.

Thanks, Randy. Maybe this will help open the door for smokeless powder being legalized in primitive weapon season. :)

We can use all the help that we can get!

The irony is, YOU CAN USE SMOKELESS in a breechloader during "primitive" season, but not in a muzzleloader specifically designed for its use like the Savage 10ML-II. :?:

Correct! I really don't see the difference in how the smokeless gets in the barrel.....inserted through the breech via a metallic cartridge or poured down the muzzle. Just doesn't add up in my opinion!

You can reload breech loader a LOT faster. Unless a few people fax or write to the MS DNR in a big hurry expressing that; you'll be stuck with it regardless of whether it makes sense.

I think those Mississippi changes must have been suggested by some elitist club and the rifles listed are those owned by the members. List makes no sense and should be erased.

Very logical assumption.

The puzzling thing is-- your state DOES allow smokeless in your primitive season.

It just needs to be inside of a cartridge.

I know Randy, what I was implying is that smokeless has it's foot in the door. This can stir a fire under front loader shooters to want a little something extra. That's the way things work in Ms.

Saw this elsewhere, I am not sure of the exact source....

Randy does this mean I can put a 45-70 barrel on my encore and hunt legal in ML season?

No, and no as cited above.

NEF / H & R Huntsmans are VERY, popular, I'm told-- they qualify.

Thanks randy. I read it again and got it right the second time.
