Is the barnes Bullet alignment tool necessary, or a marketing ploy? One of the reasons I was considering a new ramrod was to have the alignment tool, but if it isn't necessary, I can spend money on other necessities.

If your referring to your prohunter power rod my pro hunter rod is turned out on the business end for loading pointed bullets. But as I'm not sure which bullets you're talking about if they have a nice pretty pointed tip or a poly tip you need to use a loading tool on your ram rod. I also use a cva short starter that has interchangeable heads for the same purpose

Without the loading ends the tip end of the bullet can become deformed which will affect accuracy

I'm finding out you should have 2. One for the starter, and one for the rod. Unless you want to get the bullet started, un-screw the starter, screw it onto the rod, repeat.

Alaska check out the amazon link its a decent starter for the money I've had mine for 5-6 years and comes with 3 heads one for the ram rod then one each for the long side and short side of the starter.

They do work good. The only down side I see to them is that the "Loader Tip" is just that..for loading. It is close to Bore size so you can't use it for cleaning with a patch. If you shoot BH and don't swab then it is a non issue when hunting.

I was a bit on the fence about those spin jags, then I tried one for my main gun at the time. Now they are on most every caliber rod and starter, and still growing. A bit pricey but good stuff no-doubt. Ive been using their loading jag on starters and the original (cleaning / loading) on all the range rods. ON that subject, since you cant get the knight ultimate rods anymore, I have been using a few of these http://www.trackofthewolf.com/Categories/PartDetail.aspx/566/1/RAMROD-C-36-10 really great rods. 5/16 so work on .32 cal on up. Ive used them to pull a few stuck loads and dryballs on sidelocks and I cant even abuse the handle off. Just a tad long if anything, and I like a polymer bore guide better on the larger calibers.http://www.spinjag.com/bore-guide-for-muzzleloader-rifle-barrel.php Comes in 36" or 44" and either 10-32 or 8-32 thread

Western Powders offers a nice 30" coated steel rod also

They also sell some nice jags.

They will require a 8/32 to 10/32 adapter which they also sell. I have several jags like this i got as a gift. The 50cal jag works good as a 45cal loading jag/aligner for pointy bullets.

Same for me sqeeze. I kept debating on trying them... once I did, game over. :yeah: I'm still in the process of getting all I want.

And, I was lucky enough this past summer to find a NOS ultimate range rod that a local shop found in his back room. I waited too long on getting one of them from Knight, boy was I bummed when they quit offering them. I was shocked to see it in the shop, boy I scooped that thing up quick!
