Bought another TC Pennsylvania Hunter flintlock yesterday. Nice piece of wood, a loose lock ( worst hammer/ tumbler fit I've ever seen)and a great barrel.
Basically bought it for the barrel on the off chance my issues with my original was due to a bad barrel.
Well...
Went to the range, after swapping barrels, with my usual load. A .490 ball, .015 patch ( mink oil for the lube) and 70 grains of 3f Swiss.
These loaded too easily. Hardly needed the starter. In the old barrel, I needed the starter. Accuracy was poor. 3 into 4 inches at 50. But the load was too loose.
Went today with some .018 patches. Needed the starter, ramming was not too difficult, but my 3 rounders at 50 were all under 2 inches! Point of impact overlap was practically perfect.
One range trip does not trend make. But. This seems to have been a chance well taken.
Ps. I have a spare flint hammer. But it won't fit on the tumbler. Too tight.
Gonna need to have somebody correct that...
