First time. The load was my go to: 45 cal 250 grain XTP in a Harvester crush rib over 70 grains of 3f Swiss.
I had her sighted + 2 1/2 at 50. In several rifles this has me on at 100. In the Hawken though, she hit +2.
My first 3 were 2 & 3/16ths.
Next 3 were 1&5/8ths.
Last 3 were 2&5/8ths.
These are with the factory open sights, swabbed between shots with rubbing alcohol.
NO room for complaint here! Overlap of groups is very good too. I value consistency in point of impact as much basic accuracy.
Recoil was modest. Haven't chrono'd this one yet. But in other rifles, with shorter barrels, this load gave 1575 fps. I expect with 4 more inches of barrel, I might be 1600 or a bit better.
Fouling was modest and barrel heat a non- issue.
I smile to think what she'd do with an aperture sight! Even better is that this barrel only has 40 rounds through it! Not even close to being broken in yet!
Accurate rifles ARE interesting! Am lovin' my laminated Hawken!
