Have you tried shooting 70-75gr of 777-3F? That may shrink your groups as well. Also try using a 50 cal unlubed felt wad under the bullet. Yes I said 50cal felt wad for the 451. It goes down very easy and I feel it helps seals the fit so no gas escapes.

I had to go down to 60 to get it to group a couple of years ago. That was with the 1x optics though. Haven’t tried with the 3x9. I know every little thing you do can change the rifle. Sometimes for the better, sometimes not so much

Thanks, i have been working on a couple of different designs. I had a number of hours into one of them that required a bend be done. While heating it to bend it, the back of the bend split open. Back to the drawing board. Anyway, I took it off and put the knurled knob back on, not really any change. The ramrod is extremely tight going into the rings, gonna take it out and shoot today to see if the group improves. I also noticed, with the stock off, I have a serious rub spot right out at the end where a sling mount would normally be. Gonna use a dremel and take the stock down right there. I hope those two things help. It doesn’t shoot bad, just not great.

Shot this last group with my Whitetail .504. Shot it with a flashlight shining on the target. Shot from sandbags with a sweatshirt wadded up under my shoulder to keep the bruising to a minimum. That light gun is punishing!
I have an old Tasco 3x9 with about 1.5” of eye relief that I just mounted yesterday. First shot, I whacked myself haha. Gonna switch it out for something with a little more eye relief because I’m sure that lingering fear of getting whacked is affecting my shooting

Back from my range session. I reworked the ramrod retaining spring so it wasn’t so tight and removed some of the wood on the spot where I could see the barrel was really rubbing. I’ll post the target. First shot at bottom left bull was high and a little left, but then the next three were right in there. NE 385 on top of 60 gn 777fffg. I was alternating shots between two rifles to allow the barrels to cool. The group just above the center bull was my .504 Whitetail with 460 NE on top of 90 gn Pyro Select RS. The two shots circled in red were getting it dialed into the center before I sho the group. I just replaced the scope this morning. If I could just figure out how to lose the fliers, I would be one happy camper.

Lube and type of OP Wad have been the 2 biggest factors in Accuracy for me with Grease Groove bullets. I am not familiar with No Excuse’s Bullet Lube? Anyway you could test a Group with a Thinner Bullet Lube? Use Olive oil to thin it down. I have found best accuracy with my Bullet lube as Soft as i can get it, And The use of a Wool Felt OP Wad with GG bullets. These 2 things are the most important in my experience. Weigh your bullets and Sort them, i go off a + or - of 1 Grain, Anymore than 1 Grain and they Go back in the Lead pot. Also try PRECISELY weighing out your Charges on a Beam Scale, NOT a Volume Measure.

I have Had 6” and Worse Groups Shrink to 1” From Lube, and OP Wad Material

Take out EVERY possible Variable you can, Swab the EXACT same between Shots, Make EVERY shot as close as you possibly can to the last one :yeah:

The above is SIMPLE to do, and Why Not do it? Treat your Muzzleloader the Same as you would a High end Centerfire Rifle!! Would you use a Volume Measure with a Precision Centerfire? I sure as Hell Wouldn’t!!! My powder charges are weighed to a 10th of a Grain, And my Centerfire Bullets are all IDENTICAL in weight, So are my Muzzleloader Bullets! I find it AMUSING that Folks think a Muzzleloader doesn’t Apply here, Yet they expect the Same kind of Accuracy???? Again, Make EVERY single Shot as close as you possibly can to the Previous Shot By taking out EVERY possible variable you Can.

You answered your own question.

I spent the last two days building a new mold for my .504 Whitetail. I was noticing the bases on my NE bullets were kinda dinged up. I’m sure many miles of bouncing around in the hills have taken a toll on them.
I tried the felt wads and they didn’t help much.
I took the NE bullet design and re-designed it. I got rid of the front land by bringing the nose of the bullet out to full bore diameter. I also put more of a radius on the nose so the meplat is a lot smaller. Looks more aerodynamic to me. I sized them to .504 and the base has nice crisp edges.
I shot them over 80 grains Pyro Select RS, no felt wad, using Bore Butter for lube, shot from the sled with 25 lbs of weight. My first shot was a hang fire and hit low. The next three I was quite impressed with. I shot them rather rapidly. The only other grouping I got close to this was waiting about ten minutes between shots.
