I duck hunt with a mix of good guys who make their living as commercial fishermen, were commercial fishermen, and/or now fix boats/motors for commercial fishermen.
They just want the rules to make sense and not be someone's activism shoved down their throats. They do seem to get tired of Federal and State regulators having differing agendas, drawing lines in different areas, and demanding different rules followed depending what random line is drawn where by who... etc. They follow the rules and harvest what is allowed, when allowed, how allowed, and the size allowed etc. Basically: they just want to make a living providing sea food for others, but all the activism cuts into their ability to do it.
They don't understand why Cormorant (a huge fish predating water bird) are protected, and the Cormorant's effects on fish populations seemingly is ignored. I've seen flocks of Cormorant blacken the sky.
They don't crab the Chesapeake so I don't have much to add in that respect.
It's not that complicated, and they are not the bad guys.
