Hi Group,

I wanted to share some load data on a 2015 Accura MR nitride I bought for my wife.

The rifle is a 2015 CVA Accura MR nitride with Blackhorn 209 breech plug a Nikon Inline XR scope.

My wife is recoil sensitive and I am looking to develop a low recoil 75 yard effective killing range load.

All of the data was taken using a Caldwell Ballistic Precision Chronograph hooked up to my smart phone. The Chronograph was about 5 to 7 feet from the muzzle. The sun was in and out during the shooting.

Load One

Temperature 54 F
Pressure 30.21 in Hg
Primer 209 CCI Mag
Powder 50 gains by volume Blackhorn 209
Sabot Hornady Plastic Patch 50 Cal for 485 Diameter Hard Ball Package of 50, part number 6752
Bullet Hornady 0.490 round ball 178 grain, part number 6090

Shot #1 1376 FPS (cold, clean Bore)
Shot #2 1342 FPS
Shot #3 1311 FPS
Shot #4 1322 FPS

Notes: This load is very accurate with very little recoil. I was getting 2 inch groups off hand at 50 yard.

Load Two

Shot #3 1474 FPS

Notes: Low recoil, and POI at 25 yards almost the same as 50 grains, need to shoot more to evaluate at 50 yards.

Notes: Too much recoil for my wife. POI at 25 yards is 3 inches higher than 50 grains shooting off hand.

I also shot some 0.430 inch 300 grain XTP out of the Accura for kicks. I use .430 300 grain xtp in my Omega X7's

Notes: This is my normal hunting load in my Omega X7. Killed many deer. Last year shot a buck at 60 -65 yards through the hind quarter, Took out stomach, liver, one lung and was under the front shoulder. Buck was dead in 20 feet of the POI.

Notes: I my make is my new hunting load for m X7's. Recoil is notable, but shootable all day at the range.
 
You might consider looking at the 50/40 bullets like the Lehigh 200 gr. and the 200 gr. Shock Wave. I have taken deer with both and they are very effective and the reduction in bullet weight helps keep the recoil down. *0 or 90 gr of Blackhorn is a good seer load for a reduced recoil load and the Lehigh is especially effective.
 
Thanks for the suggestion.

I will try the .40 SST in some blue sabots I just bought. I wanted to try some of the Barnes 195 grain .40 cal muzzleloader bullets too. I was just not sure of the velocity needed to open the bullets on impact.
 
great data thank you for posting it. one question . how did you prevent sabot damage to your chronograph ??? I just bought the same model chrony you have. guy
 
I had good results using 175 grain redhots( Barnes) from Knight. Granted my velocities were much higher, but the range was over 150 and the bullets performed perfectly. Recoil, even using max load, was noticeably lighter than the 200 grain.

I was not too concerned with damage. I read that there are two types of chronographs, One that have been shot and others that are waiting to be shot. If I shoot it, I will just replace it with the same model.

The sabots travel with or behind the bullet for about 10 to 20 feet in my experience. The only issue I had with the chronograph was blowing off the sun shades due to the large burnt powder discharge from the barrel with any load above 100 grains. Luck for me one one other person was on the range during my shooting.

Any idea the velocity needed to open the 175 grain redhot? Thanks!
