a Few things
IM0 - that quartering 2 shot is only a shot for a VERY relaxed deer, at VERY close range.
you made the right call in NOT shooting.. Being primarily a bow hunter, wounding deer does and will happen , it sucks for US and even more the deer. So you did the right thing in not having to track a deer for 2 days causing you and him suffering..
BTW - that road kill isn't the same buck as your velvet pictured' deer IMO
