Whats your favorite Savage 10 ML-II Hunting Load???

I hunted & killed with 2 different bullets this past Deer/Hog Season.

Mine are:

250 Hornady SST w/ 45 Grains AA 5744
300 Grain Barnes Expanders w/45 Grains AA 5744

I like both but based on my range results and whut the Barnes did on a TN Hog last month...its my current favorite. Look forward to trying the Barnes on some Whitetails this coming season. :D

I hope to have a flat shooter with some barnes X bullets worked by huntin season.

The 250 XTP with 45 gr. 5744 was my choice last fall. After reading all the good reports on the 300 Barnes MZ I picked some up at cabelas. Will try to get up north to test them this weekend.

42 grs. of 4759, 250sst, short mmp and win.209. Has anyone tried the 250 Barnes MZ?

Right now 48 gr of IMR 4759 And a 245 gr barnes spitfire.. Plan on trying the N120 and spitfire sometime soon.

I shot 42.6 grains of VvN110 with the 250 Shockwave bullet, trimmed Hornady long petal sabot, and the CCI 209m primer. This load shoots into 3 inches at 200 yards and killed 8 deer last year. Five dropped at the shot, 3 ran, the farthest ran about 50 yards. Also a 200 pound boar at 117 yards, went about 50 yards. Next season I don't know yet what I will shoot. Still want to try some other combinations.

Last season it was 250 SST and 45 gn N110. I was happy with the performance, but plan to compare 3 powders and a couple of bullets for this year.

43 grs. of IMR 4759 w/250 gr SST, Hornady sabot, RW ventliner, Winchester 209. 8)

I've shot the 250 grain because the 300's won't work in my gun, why I don't know. The 300's give me a 5" group no matter which powder or sabot I use. The 250 gr. instantly gave me just under an inch with 47 gr 4759, good for 2300 fps. (chron.) The ballistic program I use tells me that is more than enough for whitetails at 300 yds and elk out to 250 yds. That is for both fps to get it to open and ft. lbs. for penetration.
Can you see me smile?

NYBOB, Sounds like the 250mz is doing a good job. Have you shot at 200-250 yds. for groups. Also did you try the 250 spitfire. Thanks,Larry

Believe it or not I was just about to start that project. Spitfires arrived the other day, I can shoot out to 500 + yds on my own property, I'm retired, so I have the time. I'm trying to work up an elk load for my hunt this Oct.. Then the dreaded "Honey Do" list caught up with me. I'm now up to my butt in 2-3 projects, so the range work will have to wait a while. Once I'm done, I'll get back to it and let you know about the 200+yds and the spitfires.

43 grains of 4759 under a 250 xtp, Federal primer This load for deer. Shoots very good. Elk load this year 348 powerbelt over 100 grains of black mag3 (so far) we have 3 months to play yet, but this load looks pretty promising. We can't use smokeless, sabots or scopes. I bought a new Omega, however the Savage is shooting better. Anyway that is my load for today, tommorrow that could change Did I tell you that it is tough to be retired. Too much time to shoot :p

43 grains of N110, MMP HP-12 trimmed sabots, WW primers, 250 SSTs.

Works for me! :)
