well lets see what the ml10`s have done in the field with what load and game taken please tell us about shot placement and its
effects on recovery

The 300 Barnes MZ with 45 grains of Lil-gun performed excellently on a 5X5 bull elk at 50 yards approximately 30 inches of penetration and found just under the skin on the opposite side perfectly expanded. The bull was quartering to and hit just behind the near shoulder and the bullet angled back toward the last rib on the far side. There was considerable damage internally and the bull simply turned and walked away about 15 yards and wobbled and fell. The rifle was the first model Savage ML with modules. The same rifle and load took a crippled doe at 60 yards with a head shot just at 2 o'clock on the left eye. The whole right side of the skull was smashed under the skin but not a big exit hole. The same rifle with a load of 49 grains of IMR-4198 and a 300 grain .458 Hornady HP double lunged a nice doe at 80 yards and she ran about 100 yards and fell. The wound channel was about the size of a quarter and small exit wound. With the Savage 10ML11, eight deer and a boar have fallen to a load of 42 grains of VVN-110 and the 250 Shockwave. Five deer fell in their tracks, in each case the spine was hit. Three deer ran, the farthest about 30 yards heart or lung shot. The bullets in all cases when recovered were in pieces. We found part of a jacket or some lead or the plastic tip usually around the exit wounds which ranged from 2 inches to 3/4 inch. The closer shots 50-60 yards had more bullet fragmentation. The farther shots from 100 to 200 yards had bigger exits. The boar was taken at 117 yards and ran 30 to 40 yards. It was hit through both lungs and the bullet didn't exit. Just a piece of bone blown loose under the hide on the far side. The lungs were destroyed. Very little blood trail but the boar fell in sight. You pays your money and takes your choice on bullet selection. I like the action of the Barnes bullets and currently am trying different combinations to get them to work in all 5 of my smokeless MZs.
