I took my 10yr old son (11 very soon) out the other day to get ready for Iowa's Youth Season on Sept. 20th. This is his 3rd year hunting, he shot a doe the 1st yr but was unable to connect last yr. We started off with the .22 to warm up and go over a few items before firing off the TC Impact 50 cal. He really enjoys shooting the .22 and it shows, he is a good shot.
After plinking for a while, I loaded up the Impact with 60grs of BH209 and a Barnes 250gr TMZ. He took out the center of the bullseye at 30yds.
I brought along a 2/3 size deer target for him to shoot at for shot placement practice. I moved it out to 50yds and let him have at it.
One dead deer target
We are getting low on our deer burger/steaks so the whole family is anxious for the season to start. We bought some beef steaks while on vacation a few weeks back and ,any more, beef just can't hold a candle to our deer steaks.
