I am having trouble with primers failing to detonate. My guess is that polishing the hammer mechanism or installing a heavier spring be the course of action to correct this?
It’s a Cabela’s 58 cal Hawken about 25 to 30 years old in apparent Queen condition having been a resident unfitted of my safe for all but a very few of those years. I’ve one new tin of primers and one older tin of primers both marked with a U imprinted on them. I have never fired it previous to yesterday.some more info would help,
what ML are you shooting?
what primers?
have you tried any other primers?
Has this just became a problem or is this a new ML?
Actually made by Interarms is what I was told by Cabelas. It’s a Cabela’s 58 cal Hawken about 25 to 30 years old in apparent Queen condition having been a resident unfitted of my safe for all but a very few of those years. The powder is newly purchased from Grafts and is Schuetzen. What powder?
How old?
Yes but Only sometimes. Many times the priming is left plugging the hole in the holder. Will the cap fire if you drop the hammer on it a second time
The new ones are No. 1075 Plus RWS GmbH Furth and the older ones are Remington No. 11 Black powder caps.I am not in the remembering of U primers ? What size are they? Like said have you snapped them once or twice ? Maybe not the hammer spring is too light ?
If they are not seated all the way on the nipple they will not fire you need #11 caps and seat they . Seem they are not seated and the first strike is knocking the compound outYes but Only sometimes. Many times the priming is left plugging the hole in the holder.
How do you assure that the cap is seated? If they are not seated all the way on the nipple they will not fire you need #11 caps and seat they . Seem they are not seated and the first strike is knocking the compound out
Thank you. Will do.Cock the hammer all the way back and with good light and a small knife, dig around in the hammer cup. A spent cap or two might be stuck in there. That could cause misfires. Also, take the lock off and give it a good cleaning.

push it down very hard you will get a fill for it in timeHow do you assure that the cap is seated?
Tnx much.push it down very hard you will get a fill for it in time
What should be the case is that the cup area on the end of the hammer should centered on the nipple, right?Would line to see a photo of your hammer on top of the nipple as if in the fired position.
