Been lurking lately, sorry. Been burning some BH209, though. Took my son black bear hunting, and he got a great bear, 6'-3" squared, with my TC Impact. 100 gr. 209, (olume), with a 250 grain TEZ. Shot at just over 150 yards.
Very impressed with bullet performance, and dropped at the shot.
Broke both shoulders, and found the bullet against the off-side hide.
He now has his own Impact, and wants to mount a Red Dot scope.
Thoughts?

Years ago I had a red dot mounted on a slug gun. I really didn't like it all that much. The dot totally covered the bullseye at 50 yards and it was difficult to sight in for me. I'm sure that they have much better ones out there today than the one I had.
I wouldn't say to not get one but I would say to shop around for a good one.

I've used a few different red dot optics over the years on various firearms. I like them for certain applications but have never used one on a hunting rifle. If he wants to go that route, the best advice I can give is don't go cheap and look for one with a 1 MOA dot if he's planning to shoot any kind of distance.
