Drove to NH yesterday to pick up my 45 cal Patriot and a few accessories. Very nice operation. If you go there and think you are lost on a gravel driveway in Brentwood, you are at the right place. :)

The stock is great looking. I put on vinyl gloves to handle it and put it together. My other muzzleloaders have black synthetic stocks.

Decided to sell my 50 cal Wolverine LK-93 when I get a chance and keep the 50 cal CVA Accura MR as a backup since it’s tweaked in with BH209 and will use BH209 with the Patriot. 5 pounds of BH209 should last awhile.

Now I need to decide on a scope. Looking at Leupold and Trijicon Accupoint. Most hunting is 100 yards or less, might go with 1x-6x.

Im really liking that Woodman 45 but I don’t need one but I really Want one!! I need a little intervention!! Anyone! Anyone!
You only live once. Buy it for the kids future muzzleloader. Buy it because its a dream gun. Buy it because you want it and your worth it. Buy it before the prices go up. Buy it if it makes you happy. Buy it cause you can. Lol

When I first began reading about the Woodman Patriot, I thought "that's just what I need if I hope to continue this hunting stuff". The gun, in reality, was just a dream. Then some life circumstances changed, and I now have one. A .45 with a McGowan barrel. Its smokeless compatible, its accurate as all heck, AND it's light.... even carrying a scope. Total game changer for me.

Now I own several muzzies. Some are sidelocks that I just will not part with but shoot seldom. I have a CVA Kodiak .45 that's as accurate as any gun made out to about 200 yards, but I hardly ever see a shot past 30 yards. Its vent-liner converted plug burns BH209 super nice, but the gun is super heavy. I have a couple Optima pistol and as a rule take one hunting about 2/3 of the season and I do very well with it. I have a V2 Accura 50 that has been my primary deer gun ever since it hit my stable. It's not super heavy, but heavy enough. I hunt on a very steep, tall hill. I have lung disease that makes climbing a chore at times and has in recent years dictated which gun is going up there with me. The pistol has won out on most occasions and that's been fine with me but in the last four years I have had to pass on shots that I would have taken has I had a rifle due to distance. My Patriot is going to let me take that climb this season as the primary gun along, with the pistol. I can take three deer, one a buck if I want, and that Patriot will get first nod on a buck.

Reasons? There are plenty. I can shoot smokeless powder using some really fine bullets that make the Patriot just nasty accurate. I can leave any BH shortage issues at home. The gun is super maneuverable in the woods. Its light. The freeze treatment given to each of the Patriots makes weather a non-issue as does it remove the corrosion issues brought on by any black or sub, including BH209. If you get a Patriot with the adjustable breech plug, you can fine tune it to get rid of any blow by and shoot as clean as a breech loader with a cartridge. If you get the carbide sleeve in that plug, you can enjoy smokeless shooting without wearing it out every other shooting session. If your state does not allow you to hunt with smokeless, hunt with BH and enjoy all of it's attributes and shoot smokeless at the range. Most of all, you'll have your fingers in the pudding as you decide how you want the gun set up when ordering and in the end you'll be getting a gun made for you, not a production rifle.

I have my Patriot set up smokeless. I shoot IMR4198 at about 50% of the same charge in BH209 and get more velocity. I do not need blistering fast bullets but at around 2400 fps on either a 200 or 225 grain, slightly more with a 195 grain, the gun is accurate beyond my expectations and more than enough for my relatively short-range deer. No smoke cloud is going to be welcomed in the woods too, as much as I do on the range.

Like Shorty said....."Buy it for the kids' future. Buy it because it's a dream gun".

Went back and forth on what scope to get for the Patriot. Have not shot it yet as it has no sights. I have Leupold scopes on several rifles but decided to get a Trijicon Accupoint TR20-1G. 3-9x40 with standard duplex reticle, green dot and tritium. Ordered yesterday and should be here tomorrow.

Ordered the P1 scope mount from Woodman Arms yesterday and should be here this week. I wanted a longer ramrod for cleaning and using as a range rod and called Tim and Mark. I ordered a ram rod from there website and they are sending me one for a 28” barrel. Great company to do business with. Look for more to come concerning ramrods from Woodman Arms.

Currently have the 225 and 250 grain star tip bullets/sabots to get started. I have the medium pressure adjustable breech plug to install and get set up with Fed 209A primers.

Will post results when I get the Patriot sighted in.

Maybe I can help you?
Repeat this in your mind.....You really do not need one of these !
Just keep telling yourself that and let me know how it works out for you!

Besides, what is so good about a 6lb rifle anyway, and one that's sml capable, has an adjustable plug for headspace, uses easy 209's, has barrel twist and well known manufacturer options as well as 50 or 45, completely American Made!, nitrided through and through, craftsmanship that is fantastic, probably missing something? Not to mention a small company that is responsive to customers and listens to our needs....waitDSC_4836.JPG

Well, that pic from LHR has about pushed me over the edge. What a bunch of enablers y’all are!! Thanks also go to Tom and Shorty and others. But it’s going to have to wait a few months since I have a couple of fall food plots I need to spend my money on right now. I’m perfectly happy hunting with the 50cal CVAs(4) and the one Knight but I haven’t ventured down the 45cal road yet but that appears to be the path to be on given Virginia allows 45s and smokeless also.
I knew I could count on you guys!!

But more Woodman porn wouldn’t hurt anything!

Everything you said 100% Plus he's great to work with too. I'll have 3 Omegas from Mark when I'm done........until I come up with another off the wall idea for another one.

Installed the medium pressure adjustable breech plug the other day to my Fed 209A primers following the instructions. Not sure how to clean it yet. I use a drill bit and welding tip cleaner for the BH209 breech plug on my CVA MR. Did not fire any primers yet.

Mounted the P1 scope mount and Trijicon Accupoint 3-9x40 TR20-1G today. I use the Wheeler leveling kit when mounting scopes.

Boresighted it on my patio with barrel off of the receiver looking at a reflector at the end of my neighbors yard at 50 yards. I center the reflector in the tiny breech hole which is centered in the end of the bore. Adjusted the scope reticle to match.

Time to sight in weather permitting next week. I usually start at 25 yards for windage, 50 yards for windage and elevation then 100 yards for fine tweaking and groups. I do the same scope mounting, boresighting and shooting routine for any rifle I put a scope on.

Sweeeeet! Congrats on a fine SML.

The Trijicon is 13.4 oz and I have the scope mounted mostly forward. The balance point is the rear part of the fore stock and the receiver by the pivot pin. Will be nice to carry when not on the sling.

It's not only going to carry great but the ultralight is going to get through a deer stand window faster and get settled on your shoulder or if you're up in a tree stand it's going to get on point quicker many times those little milliseconds are the difference in getting a shot off or not you got a great rifle I think!

Finally got to the range today to shoot the Patriot 45 cal. I had a bunch of tubes measured by volume with 100gr of BH209 from last season and used those. I had 225gr and 250gr star tip bullets/sabots from Woodman Arms with me but only shot the 225gr. Also used Fed 209A primers.

I shot 3 primers to foul the barrel, they came out clean. Shot 2 shots at 25 yards. Had an issue getting the action closed and re-adjusted the medium pressure breech plug. The primers came out dirty for the rest of the shots but left as is as I wanted to shoot. Would rather have a somewhat dirty primer than an action that won’t close in the wee hours of darkness when putting in a primer. Made a windage adjustment and shot the 3rd shot at 25 yards. Would like to get the breech plug adjusted for clean primers and the action to close right. :)

Shot 2 shots at 50 yards, made a elevation adjustment after the first shot.

Got it tweaked in at 100 yards. Made a few windage adjustments. The scope adjustments at 100 yards needed to be less than a typical centerfire rifle. Final 3 shots are in the last pic after adjustments. Looks good enough to hunt.

Shot 14 times today, 9 at 100 yards. This rifle kicks like a small mule. Only had a t-shirt on since it’s still summer. I have a lead sled but didn’t take it with me, concerned about the wood stock. Shot off a regular Caldwell rest. I should get a recoil pad for shooting with a t-shirt. I don’t worry about recoil when hunting, our late muzzleloader season is a 9 day season in December. It’s usually cold, snowy and I layer with wool clothes. Shooting at a deer is a lot different than a target.

That's good shooting!! hard to shoot a rifle that light ,looks like you got a good shooting gun, and I agree with you on the primer it don't have to be spotless and clean you got to be able to close the gun,, if it's doing that good with the plane 225 star tip try the 225-402 with the black tip in a light blue with the same charge but that shooting great congratulations

When adjusting the plug to fit your primers, first you need consistent primer lengths. I sort out a bunch that are the same length, then adjust the plug for them. You want to have them tight enough that the gun closes but the break trigger is about an 1/8" shy of locking all the way forward. Then you simply push forward on the lever to close it all the way. This ensures a slight crush fit on the primer and your blow by fouling will be very minimal after that. Also, with BH209 you will get erratic groups with too much blow by happening, so it is important for best accuracy to do this. That said your groups don't look to bad !
