I know the general consensus is to use the Harvester crush rib sabot ( green or black depending on 44 or 45). So what bullets are you currently using? Right now I am finishing up on the Traditions Smackdown 250's I have, thinking of going to the Hornady FTX 250gr but also looking at the XTP 250's both 45 cal( 452 dia.)

Most of my hunts I haft to use all lead and no sabots. No Excuses 420 grain .503 has treated me well out of my knight mountaineer, usually 2 - 3” patterns at 200 yards with open sights.

My Hawken with 1:28” twist barrel shoots very nice patterns with black widow venom 300 grains conicals.

Haven’t really settled on a saboted bullet yet. Haven’t had enough time to work up a load.

Shot my muzzle loader does the last two years in Indiana using Cutting Edge 250 grn Maximus bullets and their green crush rib sabots over 75 grn (weighed) Blackhorn 209. I am shooting a CVA Plains Rifle and this combination shoots sub 1 inch groups at 100 yards consistently for me. All deer shot travelled less than 100 yards and showed massive internal wounds.

If you don't mind sharing, what kind of velocity are you getting with that load?

I haven’t got a chance to run it through my chronograph yet, sorry. With the black widows I’ve been using 85-90 grains of T7 FFG. With the No Excuses I’ve been using 90-95 grains of T7 FFG. I’m hoping to get out here in the near future and try out some 100 grain plus loads in my 2 .50 cal knights. If I get the chance and chrono them I will update you.

I've used Precision Rifle 340 gr. Dead Centers for deer with great success out to 250 yards. As for tight sabots, I like to know my load won't fall out while hunting. For elk, I'm using .45-70 bullets at 405 gr. over 115 gr. 777. They shoot fine out of my .50 with black crush rib Harvester sabots designed for .45 caliber bullets. I hunt with a clean barrel, so if I need a quick follow up shot, I have orange MMP sabots made for the .458s that load easity in a fouled barrel. The seem to group the same, so it works for me. With the 405 gr. bullets on elk, and the 340gr. for deer, I haven't ever needed a follow up shot, even at 230 yards for elk.

Out of my favorite thunderhawk, Hornady xtp 200 or 240gr. Over 90gr of ffg black powder. Sub m.o.a.

In my Whitelightings I use XTP 200gr, Harvester Crush Rib sabot and 70gr/by weight of 777/fff. They shoot sub-MOA. OR my own pure lead 451gr bullets with 65gr/by weight of 777/fff. They shoot almost as good when I due everything right and can see the target. (have eye problems)

I have a Rem 700ML .50 cal with the ASG bolt nose and 209 breech plug. I am shooting 325 gr .458 Hornady FTX bullets in a black Crush Rib sabot. These are loaded over 77 gr by weight of BH209 and a Federal 209A primer. Will shoot 1" to 1.5" groups at 100 yards from a bench rest.

In my CVA, 250gr SST w/MMP 3petal EZ sabot, on top of 100 gr BH209. Shoots 1" groups all day long.

I use the Speer Gold Dot .452 300gr. over 110 grains of BH209 with a Harvester short black sabot in my Omega. I also like the Hornady FTX .430 265gr. over the same load with a Harvester Crush Rib sabot. Both of these shoot really well out of my gun. Haven't been lucky enough to use the FTX on game yet but the Gold Dot works great and holds together well.

Will that Gold Dot work with a regular crush rib sabot?

in my t/c black diamond a 240gn xtp with 90gn 777 has served me well with excellent expansion. In my CVA accura a 260gn pt gold or a 250gn monoflex with 90gn bh209 works out well.
