Hello,
New here to the forum and after researching some things on the internet decided this place was a good place to get information.
I bought when (NEW) an original Knight DISC Rifle (orange discs). I never used it much. Fired it a few times and really couldn't get a very accurate load so, and didn't like all the cleaning so, I put it in the safe until yesterday.
I opened the safe pulled out the rifle and had to break free the breach plug. I gave it a thorough cleaning and got on line to see what has changed, if I could still find the discs, and maybe an accurate load.
Seems to me everyone has changed the bolt and BP to use red discs or bare 209 primers and BH209 powder for better accuracy, less cleaning. Firstly, I cannot find any of these items on line. No conversion kits, and no BH209.
Questions:
1. Should I bother trying to upgrade my Knight disc rifle, or just purchase a newer model to get the ease of loading, unloading, cleaning, accuracy and distance?

2. I would rather upgrade my rifle if possible. If it is possible my understanding is that I can convert it from an "Original" to an Extreme which will take the red discs, then from there, I can buy a different breach plug to accept the bare 209 primers. Is this correct?

3. If I am able to eventually find a conversion kit. Can someone recommend some loads? I belie ve the barrel is 26" SS with 1:28 twist rate.

4. If its not worth the time, effort, or $$$, and I know this is like asking whats better Ford, Chevy, or RAM, what are some recommendations? I have been looking at the CVA ACCURA. However, I can't find any of those in stock either!

I am on the verge of just sticking to my bow and arrows. At least those are in stock. LOL
Any and all help and advice is very appreciated. Thank you in advance for your time.

I have a couple of upgraded Original DISCs. Great guns. As good as a new Extreme imho. The conversions can still be had and will be cheaper than a new gun. I think you would be in the $150-$170 range(?) to make it an Extreme with a Lehigh bare primer setup.

Accuracy wise, the gun should be capable of 1in. To 1.5 in groups at 100yrds. If it were me keep what you got. Get used to a little more cleaning til you can find bh209. The load I run in my 3 disc based guns is 110gr of powder and barnes bullets .

Any suggestions as to where I can find these conversion kits? Are they just remove and insert or does a gunsmith need to get involved? I have read about shimming of something using a rubber gasket or metal washer.

You can buy the conversion right from Knight. Call or email them and tell them you want a kit to convert your Original to an Extreme. They are remove and replace parts kits.
If you want to go to bare primer (recommended) then the Lehigh bare primer adapter and breech plug are the best way to go. No more leaky plastic primer carriers. Also just swap parts. Only shimming you might need would come after that, but isnt always necessary. I can get some links for you if you like.

Absolutely!!
I have been to Knights website and the only kits listed aren't for my ORIGINAL rifle. Everyone else is sold out. I tried calling Knight and the only number I found on their website was disconnected.

***UPDATE*** I was able to find a telephone number on line. The recording said that due to COVID that were not taking phone calls and to send an e-mail. E-mail sent. I have read that they do not respond to e-mails, fingers crossed.

Thanks.

Welcome to the forum from NC , when I got my elite I went with the Lehigh conversion it an easy swap. I’m happy with 110 gr black horn with w209 primer and 250 deep curl bullet. You will be happy with the results.

Email Knight or contact them on FaceBook. Ask for the bare primer bolt body ONLY. Tell them you want to use it in a DISC Original. They will do the mod so it fits. Your bolt internals will screw right into the bare primer body. Then get the bare primer plug from Lehigh. ....That is about the least expensive way to do it depending on what they want for the bolt body. The FPJ bolt body is probably cheaper but then you will also need the Lehigh FPJ adapter.

Last time i checked it was around $65 for the FPJ bolt body. You can buy the bare primer one at Sportmans Warehouse for $85ish. It may or may not fit without removing a tiny bit of metal. The one at Sportsmans includes a Moutaineer plug you can not use unless you have a lathe to shorten it.

Thanks, I sent them an e-mail. I hope they get back to me in a couple days with good news. The extreme conversion kit with tax and shipping was $235.

I got this for my elite and works great. No leaks anywhere with a Winchester 209. SSK Firearms.

Sub-Total$31.00
Total$31.00

I see no reason to spend more.
The only problem is that I don't have an Elite. I have an ORIGINAL that uses the orange discs to hold the primer. I have to change the bolt and breach plug for that to work.

Sorry about that. But do just make the conversion. These guns shoot great. After getting my elite tweeked I may sell my Knight Bighorn and CVA Wolf. The elite is going to be my go to muzzle loader. Im sure your original will not disappoint you. With or without the conversion.

Got a return e-mail today from Knight. I have to buy a conversion kit which is the bolt and primer only breach plug for $131. They stated to put in the order comments that it is for an ORIGINAL Knight Disc Rifle and that they would machine the bolt to work. So, I am a happy camper and I get to save some money. Now to find BH209 or a comparable powder once the item from Knight comes in. You guys have been great!! Thank you!

New bolt ordered from Knight and new breech plug ordered from Lehigh Defense. Now, just sit back and wait for the UPS guy and hopefully find some BH209 or T7 powder and start load development. :snipe:
