Sad. The thing with jersey is that some urban areas have true problems with deer numbers while other areas need deer. At one point there was a healthy pop of deer in my area but then coyotes and blue tongue among other things moved in. The fish and game doesn’t use science in their regs. They use harvest numbers as a gauge to set the regs. Their is no reason anyone should be able to harvest 6 bucks a year. Oh and they did away with unlimited does in my areas last year and limited it to “just” 5 does per season. So you can harvest 20 antlerless deer a year. And many of them are button bucks that clubs and others kill. Love Jersey.

I think your choice of a 45 1-20 mountaineer barrel in a ultra lite stock is an excellent choice.

Jsnake I can’t disagree with the over harvest of does , I hunted zone 16 for years and saw a steady decline in deer numbers, I haven’t hunted public land for 7 years ,the endless deer drives during the shotgun days is brutal, do like a few of us and find a lease if you can ,it’s worth it . and the ultra lite is a great gun , but so is the mountaineer , but it is a little long for tree stand hunting, good luck with everything.
I believe you can get the 1-20 mountaineer .45 barrel for $400 from knight and then you can get the ultra lite in .50 for about $900....so for $1300 you could have both barrels by doing it that way.

That does sound like the best deal going. Then you could also hunt surrounding states that have a 50cal minimum for elk/bear too. It covers all your bases.

If they said that - you are in good shape! the ULite stock will work great on a Mountaineer!
This is a FT Mountaineer in a ULite stock. Really do not use it that much - but it works well.
If you order it or even the ULite - think about ordering it with a FPJ bolt - mush easier to convert to a bare primer with a new Lehigh 17-4 primer adapter and breech plug with removable vent liner.
Nice rifle.
