    45 Caliber....which one??

I have a knight mountaineer .50 in a UL stock and a mountaineer .45 1:20”. My .50 cal mountaineer is pretty much my go to of my 4 muzzleloaders. I’m just starting to get some time to shoot the .45 and l am incredibly impressed. My first try at 200 yards with open sights wasn’t to bad ( pic...

    Best inlines

So far all 4 of mine are pretty close. I have a Hawkin .50 cal with a green mountain 1:28” twist barrel, globe front sight and Lyman adjustable peep rear that shoots as tight a group as any of my knights with a polywad and 420 grain no excuses bullet. (3” or less at 200 with 90 grain t7) My .50...

    Knight Mountaineer

I have 2 Mountaineers, 1 in .50 cal and 1 in .45 cal. I put a Ultra Lite stock on my .50 cal and really enjoy it. My .45 cal has a thumb hole stock, the only thing l don’t like about the wood thumb hole is the trigger reach, the grip for me is a little cumbersome. Both are great shooters...

.45 cal rifle and pyrodex p load questions

Gotcha. I’m not totally sure but l believe it is a 1:20” twist barrel, it was bought from knight as a barrel only. Maybe the serial number would tell if it is a 1:20” or 1:30”? i’ve never used bh209 and doubt l will because l’m a cheap skate, but l will keep that in mind if l ever do.

.45 cal rifle and pyrodex p load questions

I doubt l would ever go over 100 grains I doubt l would use more than 90 or 100 grains of powder, l was just trying to cover my bases on safety. Since l bought it used it did not come with a owner manual. Agreed, l figure much over 100 grains l wouldn’t be able to hit the broad side of a barn...

.45 cal rifle and pyrodex p load questions

I have a .45 cal knight Mountaineer that l have a used t7 ffg for shooting. I have read several threads about pyrodex p being a great option for this caliber. I typically shoot 385 grain no excuses conicals or 350 grain lead conicals with 80 to 90 grains of t7 ffg. Has anyone been shooting...

Bolt will not stay cocked Knight ultra lite

I had a similar problem. I found that sometimes my trigger was off just a little to the right pushing again the stock and causing the trigger to stick in the fire position. Once l pulled it out and recentered it, it was clear of the stock and no more problems.

    Question for the Knight guys

I also have a LRH. No you do not need a new bolt. I bought the Lehigh bare primer kit and it works great. User friendly as well. If it interests you, you can also use a disc bare primer kit if you want to use #11’s or musket primers. The LRH is kind of a different version of the disc’s the way...

    Wads? Yes? No?

Something you may want to try is polywads from the bull shop. I learned about them on here and bought a bag of 1000 for my .50’s and my .45 in .060 thickness. So far me and my friend have been very happy with our results shooting No Excuses conicals with them. Prior to polywads we used felt and...

Knight ultra light vs Knight mountaineer

One other thing, we are required to use lead in Idaho. I have had good luck with no excuses 420 grain with a .060 polywad in my .50’s. And other folks on here can help you with other choices as well. Just thought you might like a starting point. I’m getting 3” groups at 200 over 90 to 100 grains...

Knight ultra light vs Knight mountaineer

For me the Mountaineer just felt more comfortable. I typically prefer a little bit heavier wood stock with a wider front grip. I also own a knight long range hunter and it has a very large wood stock. I do like the ultra like stock but l have never really loved any stock that wasn’t wood. The...

Knight ultra light vs Knight mountaineer

Just one thought for you. I have a Mountaineer with a ultra light stock in .50 cal and a .45 in Mountaineer wood stock .45 cal 1:20 and l they both shoot excellent with both western and 209 conversion kits. The only thing l would consider is in Idaho you need to have a .50 cal or larger for elk...

    Question on poly wads

I’ll be using T7 or pyrodex under a 365 grain lead conical on my .45 and a 400 or 420 grain conical in my .50’s. I’m guessing .060 would still be the best option?

    Question on poly wads

For those of you using poly wads l was wondering in you could fill me in on a few things. I have a fast twist 1:20” .45 cal knight Mountaineer, a 1:28” .50 cal Mountaineer, 1:28” .50 cal knight lrh, and a hawken 1:28” .50 cal. 1. Should I go with .030 or .060 for thickness? For both .45 and .50...
