For those of you using poly wads l was wondering in you could fill me in on a few things. I have a fast twist 1:20” .45 cal knight Mountaineer, a 1:28” .50 cal Mountaineer, 1:28” .50 cal knight lrh, and a hawken 1:28” .50 cal.

1. Should I go with .030 or .060 for thickness? For both .45 and .50 cal?

2. For the .45 should I got with .452 or .462?

3. Is .512 the correct size for the .50 cals?

Thanks for any input.

Poly wads (Polymer) for shooting are usually made of LDPE.
I’ve always used 1/16” under all my flat based bullets and some semi-cup based bullets.
For diameter - I’m not sure of all mfg, but knights are 0.006” deep. X2= 0.012”. So, you should at least try to fill the grooves.
Your:
0.462”
0.512”
Should be ok, as the material will expand/compress slightly.
Make a punch and punch them out of flat sheet material.

If the goal is using BH209 under projectiles i would go with .462 x .060 in 45cal. They seal very tight. I would wager they are almost water proof tight. Still plenty easy enough to load though with a short starter.

I’ll be using T7 or pyrodex under a 365 grain lead conical on my .45 and a 400 or 420 grain conical in my .50’s. I’m guessing .060 would still be the best option?

I use both in my 1-18/and 1-25 twist over OE 2F/3F and 1 1/2F , I punch mine 460/459 .in all my side locks , Same .30/.60 poly in all my RB lds 50-54-58-610 and postells/443 sliks in the fast twists ,I would try a bunch of different combos and find what works for you .The finding is 1/2 the fun/Ed
