I was hoping to get some info on shooting .50 x .40 sabots out of my Triumph. Any input on options would be appreciated.

Some people have had success doing it. A lot haven't. The sabot is a bit thick which can lead to some problems and if I recall the 1-28 twist is also a bit slow for most .40 bullets.

In a T/C you might find that sabot to be very tight. I never had much luck with 50x40s using full power loads. The 200gr SST 40cal will shooting in them. Its not too long. I just never got them to shoot nearly as well as 50x45s.

When I sighted in my cva optima v2 50 cal I used Harvester 50x40 crush rib h15040bl with 80 grains of blackhorn 209 with a 180 grain 40 cal hollow point. The powder was measured not weighed.I got 1'' or less at 75 yards grouping.

I tried the Harvesters and when i cranked up the load past 100grV it blew the sabot occasionally. Never blew the MMP but they were much tighter. If you want to shoot something like a 200gr XTP with no more than 100grV they should be fine. The 40cal XTPs will get pretty fragile if shot any faster anyway.

Considering there are 200gr-225gr 45cals available i pretty much gave up trying to get the 50x40s to shoot. Drop a 45cal 200gr XPB in the right sabot and you got a sweet light recoil load.

Early last year i bought the 200 grain .40 caliber SST bullets and the blue crush sabots. The crush ribs load relatively easy. My TC Black Diamond makes 1.75 inch five shot groups at 125 yards using 120 grains of Black MZ powder.

I bought sabots to use .40 bullets in my Knight 50 cal, and the literally fell down the barrel. I haven’t tried them in any of my other guns.

You might want to try the Orange MMP sabots, which are made for the .458 diameter bullets. You can get them directly from MMP.
I shoot the Hornady 325 grain FTX bullets in them.

I personally had excellent results in a 45 caliber Omega (1:28) and a 50 caliber Knight DISC (1:28) . The bullet is 225gn smooth bullet with a bevel base that I had Mountain Molds make me a mold for. My load is 100gn 777 2F , MMP sabot and Winchester 777 primers. My success was not immediate but since I put the effort into the bullet itself I kept playing with it and tried several primers and once I started to use the new at the time 777 primers my groups tighted up significantly. I practiced regularly with this bullet from 50 -175yds and knew where it would hit at 25 yard increments. I harvested one deer at 150 yards and several out to the 100yd range with this combination . Another bullet I also had success with in a MMP sabot is the Lyman 403169 which cast at 250gn in my mold.
