Is lot #41 the latest know lot of BH?
Per our discussions over the weekend, yes.Slower than 39, 37, 40? All previous?
Volume to volume it has less velocityOk - I am currently in lot #22, and actually have a bunch to go. Then I will be moving to lot #37,
Are you both indicating that lot #41 is heavier/bigger particles - relating to the word 'slower' than the previous lots.
For myself lot #22 has been somewhat slower than the previous lots. For lot #22 I am loading 86 grains by weight versus the previous very low lot numbers that I have used 84 gr. by weight.
The previous lot # I used were 4 and 6.
Thanks for letting us know this, I very much appreciate the read ahead, as I have some new lot 41 powder, ready to go. Do you happen to have a rough estimate on the fps decrease in velocity? I know there are lots of variables that influence velocity, but I was wondering if you had some rough chrono numbers.Volume to volume it has less velocity
That’s some dang good and useful data right there! Thank you very much. Here are a couple of speeds using two different lots of Blackhorn, one of which is lot 41.
Rifle is 45 caliber Omega. Bestill breech plug. Load is 78 weighed grain Blackhorn, vegetable fiber wad, 265g Fury STB sized way loose @ 0.4505", CCI shot gun primer.
lot 37 -- 2067 fps, 2067 fps, 2080 fps
Average speed is 2071 fps
lot 41 -- 1990 fps, 2005 fps, 2038 fps
Average speed is 2011 fps
