Blue Crappie

In well over 50 years of fishing my favorite local lake I have seen three blue phase crappies. Today we got the third and it was much nicer than the previous two, at about 11-3/8". What a beautiful color phase.

I used to fish crappies a LOT with my grandfather, when I was a kid. I haven’t specifically targeted them in years.

I remember seeing the “blue” coloration, but I don’t remember what percentage of our crappies had it. We never paid any attention.

Grandpa was strictly from the “hook ‘em and cook ‘em” school of thought…

There's a couple lakes in my area that are good for crappie. I gotta get my boat ready.
I think crappie are one of the best eating fresh water fish.
