I "lost" my a short starter one year at the deer cabin. I made one using a Golf ball and a piece of 3/8 dowel. Drill a 3/8 hole about 1/2 way or more through, shove the dowel in cut it, at whatever length you want 3 or 4 inch's works best for me. Ive been using this for years now. When I started shooting Barnes Red Hot bullets, I drilled a 1/4 hole about 5/16 or less, offset from the dowel, to just get the bullet past the crown.
That's my 2 cents. zfoofo

This thing does everything possible to start a bullet, not DIY but dirt cheap. I have 2-3 of them, fits in my jacket pocket.
I just picked up another one of these for $5! I've been using these for quite a few years and have never had a problem using it other than leaving the last one laying in the woods! 🙄
