Took my CVA Missouri sidelock out today and oh boy was it cold.  Anyway I was using 70 2F Olde E now I've had some trouble getting this rifle to shoot a conical I'e tried 350 minie first time was good second time not so much it is a great sabot shooter but I'd prefer a conical in a tree stand.

So today I tried some 275 T/c Maxi hunter with a wad started good but opened up the more I shot.  Moved on to 240 grain Pa conicals no wad not so much.

When much to my surprise I tried some 420 gr No Excused sized to .503 no wad and wow !  First group 1.4 at 55 and then 1 inch maybe a little less then I just shot and blew out 2 circles about an inch apart so I hope I have my load.

First I was shocked that a 1 in 48 twist would stabilize a bullet that heavy and long, secondly I've never had any luck at all with out a wad or a mmp sub-base over the charge.
