This was a great piece of engineering for its time. If they had worked the minor flaws out of it, it may have shortened the War of Independence.

i saw an original Ferguson rifle in about 1965.

Major Ferguson claimed to have passed on a shot at George Washington.

Major Ferguson threatened to  massacre rebels and their families.   The Brits complained loudly after the battle of Kings Mountain.   Rebel troops had lined up and urinated all over the Majors body.

one draw back is that after a few shots, you had to clean the screwing part of the mech. as it would gum up with fouling.
